Page 4 THE BATTALION Friday, September 17, 1954 Board To Discuss Building, Finances Construction items and financial matters will be discussed by the A&M System board of directors when they meet here this weekend. Items on the agenda are as fol lows: Consideration of a revenue bond issue for the new A&M Press building and bids for construction of the building. Report from an engineer on the need^ for an increase in A&M’s electrical powei’ supply. Bids for a feed building at the Poultry center. Consideration of confirmation of the building of a residence on the college plantation. Other minor building contracts. The board will take time off to attend the football game and the dedication ceremonies of the G. Rollie White coliseum Saturday. The ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m. in the lobby of the big build- ihg- Dr. M. T. Harrington, chancellor, will preside at the dedication. A. E. Cudlipp, a memKer of the board of directors, will dedicate the coli- j seum to White, banker and ranch- | man from Brady who is serving his 29th year as a member of the board. It is his 10th year as chair man. Gibb Gilchrist, former chan cellor, will give the invocation. Tyree L. Bell, president of the Austin Road company of Dallas, will also speak at the dedication program. The directors of the Bryan Chamber of Commerce will give a dinner honoring the members of the board of directors Friday night. Also invited to the dinner, which is at 7:30 p.m. at the Oaks in Bry an, will be college officials and local civic leaders. The next meeting of the board will be in Austin at the time of the A&M-University of Texas football game. Non-Regs Get Own Student Council A&M Students Can Enlist In Reserve A&M cadets can enlist in the Army Reserve in room 108 of the Military Science building, September 21 through 24. A recruiting team from the of fice of the unit advisor, will be there then, said Lt. Col. C. E. Hesse. A freshman cadet enlisting now and receiving a commission after graduation would receive $29.64 more per month or $355.68 per year because of four years reserve service. Length of service in any of the armed .forces or their reserves in creases the pay for each rank. A cadet cannot be called to ac tive duty while he is in ROTC. Units in College Station and their vacancies include the 420th engineers brigade, 7; 75th division artillery, 15; medical detachment of 75th division artilery, 3; 897th field artillery, 2; and 289th infan try, 26. For the first time in the history of A&M, civilian students will have their own. student council. The civilian council is to be started this month. Floor or ramp representatives will be elected and they will elect a councilman Prom their dormitory area. The council will work toward better and friend lier relationships with the cadets and all parts of the college and toward improving all phases of college life. Each civilian dormitory has a student housemaster who will as sist students with their problems, maintain cleanliness arid proper living and study conditions in his dormitory. Each area has a coun selor or advisor responsible for student personnel work in his area. He is also available for consulta tion at all times. Civilian students are expected to keep their rooms clean and orderly at all times, said Bennie Zinn, as sistant dean of men for student af fairs. They may come and go as they please and may wear any type of clothing they choose as long as it is clean and in usual good taste. Civilian students are encouraged to participate in all college activi ties. All students should partici pate in intramurals or in some ac tivity at the Memorial Student Center, Zinn said.
