Herlong said the Republicans
have come up with a secret weapon,
“the Schine ball.” But he said the
Democrats aren’t afraid of it.
The Florida Democrat said the
“Schine ball” is a new pitch in
vented by Representative Davis
of Wisconsin, who pitches for the
Republicans.
“It’s thrown,” Herlong said, “by
taking a considerable dab of butter
and putting a wad of it on the
ball. I understand they have a
considerable supply of butter in
Wisconsin.”

Bishop, who at 63 is baseball’s
oldest playing manager, noted that
the Republicans had licked the
Democrats’ pitching mainstay,
Representative Wheeler of Geor
gia, in a practive game at Daytona
Beach last April, 7 to 3.
“We have taken the fire out of
Firefall Wheeler,” he said, “and
we can do it again.”
Rep. Olin Teague of Texas will
play second base for the Dems.
