In his younger days, Potts con
tinued, before Thornton left Texas
for California in 1932, he was pre
sident of the 4-H Club organization
and president of the united 4-H
Club boys in Texas.
He was a delegate to the first
National 4-H Club camp in Wash
ington in 1927, Potts said, and
was elected chairman. He was also
Texas’ delegate to the national
4-H. Club Congress in Chicago in
1925.
Texan By Birth
Gov. Thornton, a Texan by birth,
graduated from high school in
Lubbock County and then came to
A&M. After a few weeks, he left
school and enrolled at Texas Tech,
and then, later attended UCLA in
California where he was graduat
ed.

Smithville won the district for
the eleventh consecutive year, with
Bastrop finishing second and Con
solidated third.
Anderson and Jackson, who went
to the finals in the state tennis
tournament last year will compete
for the regional crown, in San
Marcus, April 24 and 25.
