The new program, which makes use of light, low-powered aircraft, is specifically designed to deter mined students’ ability to fly early in the program. A considerable improvement in cadet flying safety is expected to accompany the program. Planes in the 60-90 horsepower class will be used in the first six weeks of primary training. Pre-flight training has been in creased from six to 12 weeks but does not effect student offi cers, as they do not join their class until it reports to a primary train ing base. Flying time in the primary phase has been increased 15 hours; advanced flying time will be de creased 15 hours. sor of the two anti-Communist net works. Each said the effectiveness of the programs beamed to the Soviet satellite countries was reflected in sharp reaction from the Commu nists. To Fight Lies Eisenhower said the purpose of the Crusade broadcasts “was ac tively to oppose communism — to fight the big lie with the big truth.” “The frenzied counterattacks and denials of the Communists on both sides of the world,” he said, “prove that these two radio net works are hurting the Reds and giving comfort and encouragement to oppressed people.” Keep Freedom Alive Eisenhower said the 13 transmit- ters of Radio Free Europe and the three of Radio Free Asia were supplying the truth and keeping the spark of freedom alive in peo ple who otherwise might “have succumbed to the philosophy that it is good to be slaves.” He said the Communists had told an infinite number of lies to mil lions of people and that the free I’adios gave the oppressed people “a measuring stick to lay against each lie that is told them.” Stevenson said the programs have a “spontaneity and fresh ness” which “no official informa tion agency can have.” Range, Forestry Group Visits Coast Dr. O. E. Sperry and 13 Range and Forestry students will take a two day field trip on Nov. 13. The group will go to the Gulf Coast to study coastal marsh suc cession. Several side trips have been scheduled. These will include trips to the coastal prairie, the piney woods, and a trip to observe hardwood succession.
