Schaffer rode in the ambulance to the hos pital. A faulty spark plug was blamed for the ambulance's failure, to Immediately after the explosion students in Dormitory 10 swarmed out of the building and moved across the dorm area to Dormitory 9 where they picked up benches in front of that building and started back to their dorm. The benches had been the .sub ject of a previous disturbance in the area Monday night and the students grabbed them almost in stinctively. Dormitory 9 students poured out and attempted to grab the benches away from their op ponents. With some effort, Arno Becker and Lee Phillips, command ers of A Ordnance and A Signal Corps respectively, were able to quel the distrubance and send the men back to their dormitories. Elsewhere in the area the ex citement caused students in other dormitories, to get in on the bench stealing, And before that distur bance was quieted, a water fight hald started between Dormitories 4 and 6. Commanders Meeting Called Maj. After Gay was moved to the hospital, Major Goff called a meeting of all unit commandei’S in the uppei’classman area. Commandant -Toe Davis and Counselors Maj. Chax-les Taylor and Capt. Charles Bird arrived be- fox-e the meeting got underway. Colonel Davis told the command ers he wasn’t sux-e how much dam age had been done to the dormitor ies from the explosion or from a tear gas bomb which was exploded in Dormitory 9 Monday night. He told the men that evidently students in the corps were going wild, for some unknown reason. “I hope you can clean this mess up and go back to your units and get things under control,” the com mandant said. ■ “For Unit Spirit” “I’m for unit spirit,” Colonel Da vis said, “but we are still one Corps of Cadets and we don’t want to let anything happen to make this corps any other way. If a cadet officer tells a sophomore or junior what to do, he is expected to do it, re gardless of what branch either the senior or underclassman is in.” Colonel Davis closed the meeting by asserting, “Let’s tie ourselves together and get this situation wiped out. A cadet officer is a cadet officer and his word goes.” After the disturbance was quiet ed and everyone had apparently gone back to their dormitories, a report was rushed to the guard x’oom in Dormitory 12 that caps had been taken off commodes in Dormitory G and water was flood ing the ax-ea. Major Goff was tx-y- ing to locate a plumber to fix the equipment at midnight.
