Page 4 THE BATTALION Monday, kay 7,1951 Chest X-Ray Drive Falls Short of Goal The 1951 Anti-tuberculosis chest X-ray campaign closed its College Station drive Saturday with a total of 5,635 people taking advan tage of the free service. “I’m glad the people who took the chest x-rays responded to the chance to get a “picture of health” however I’m sorry more people didn’t realize the necessity of the x-rays,” said J. B. Baty, chairman of the public health committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Last year, 6,836 people from the campus, College Station, and the surrounding area filed past the X- ray camera. Of this number, 108 positive reactions were recorded by the State Health Department in Austin. Baty continued, “Several people remarked to me that they failed to have x-rays made this year be cause they had them made last year and the results showed no signs of tuberculosis. Since they were still feeling good and in per fect health, they saw no reason to have x-rays made again this year.” “This bit of rationalizing is not good because tuberculosis can and does strike at anytime and where it is least expected.’ The only way to be sure is to take advantage of the x-rays,” Baty concluded. The portable unit, sponsored throughout the country by the Na tional Anti-Tuberculosis Associa tion, will open its facilities in Bryan beginning May 8 and re maining open until May 17. The unit is located in the old Safe-Way Market building on Bryan Street and is open from 9 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. daily except Sunday.
