“No Special Cases For
Athletes”—Rosenberg
Washington, Jan. 24—UP)—The
excitement over drafting 4-F ath

mered down to this today:
Athletes will get the same treat
ment every one else does, no bet

A spokesman for ..Ihe Surgeon
General’s office said that’s the way
it was in World War II. He said
athletes who were classified in 4-F
then definitely belonged there.
Mrs. Anna Rosenberg, Assistant
Secretary of Defense, said today:
“Athletes will be regarded like
anyone else when it comes to pos

fense Marshall shocked the sports
world all the way down to its

and
their selective service exams
wind up 4-Fs.
As for athletes in World War
II, the surgeon general’s spokesman
said:
“We made a study after the last
war to see how men could be active
in sports and still not be able to
pass their physical examinations.
What we found was surprising.
“Some athletes had incipient
tuberculosis. Others had advanced
cases of syphilis. Others had all
sorts of chronic diseases. They
seemed to be able to give a good
account of themselves in sports,
but they wouldn’t be much good
for the long haul.

For 2nd Loss
The A & M Consolidated
Tigers suffered their second
defeat in district play last
night when they bowed to
Somerville 19-25. Consolidat
ed missed 18 of their 21 free
throws.
It was a scoreless first quarter
for the Tigers who were able to
net only seven points in the en
tire first half. The half-time score
was 14-7, Somerville.
Consolidated came within four
points of a tie in the third quarter
as they shortened the tally to 16-
20. However, it was just a game
attempt for the original lead
proved to be too great.
In the first game of the double
header, the Tiger “B” team nipped
the Somerville Bees 21-19. The
youngsters led by only one point at
halftime and found themselves
trailing by one at the end of third
quartez - , 16-17.
Scoring honors in the first game
went to Byron Andrews of Consol
idated who scored eight. Larry Ir
win of Someiwille was second with
six.
In the varsity game, McMinn of
Somerville led both quintets with
15 points while Bobby Williams was
high man for Consolidated with
six.
The Tigers will play Milano Fid-
day night at Consolidated. Milano
is the only other team to defeat
Consolidated in District play and
the team who is favoi'cd to cop
the district championship.

BARGAIN
WATERMELON IN JANUARY?
Not really. But actually, that is no more untimely
than are low everyday shelf prices on many, many
staple food items right in the teeth of a virtually
certain price freeze.
Using old OPA markups, Crisco today on the
3 lb. can would cost us $1.18 per can, and our retail
, price would be $1.29. Actually, our price is $1.07.
Inconsistent, since ceilings are intended to keep
prices down. But FEAR of Ceiling Prices has been the motivating force on most of
the recent advances—everyone all along the line from producer to retailer wanted
“to establish” a high ceiling price so that a freeze of prices would not catch him
short.
As for ourselves, we posted prices December 15th based on replacement costs, and
these prices have been in effect a part of every day since, usually one minute imme
diately before closing or right after opening. Thus we have kept our prices low in
accordance with our advance buying advantages, while making it possible to increase
our selling prices WHEN WE HAVE TO RE-BUY. Thus, our customers will enjoy
price protection as long as it is possible for us to extend it.
