Then the men went to their hands and knees, scrubbing the woodwork and floors until they became an anemic white. When darkness fell, the floors were not yet dry, but threats of rain made the cadets put more speed into these already diminish ing efforts. Furniture was brought to both doors, the legs wiped care fully with damp cloths and then taken in. / Preparation for the inspection, however, was still not finished! Brass was shined, shoes polished, contents of drawers arranged neat ly, all clothing hung up pra and books once again arranged a uniform manner. Immediately after everything was in order, the showers were stormed by sweaty, begrimed men in search of an equa- tic interlude before taps. Thursday morning, cadets rose with their eyes half-closed to meet "reveille.” An uneven struggle with the elements began as men in ponchos began their attempts to get to class without perly. becoming unduly wet. Gosh, I've forgotten everything I ever knew about the M-l rifle!” One of the most fright ened fish had planned a shrewd strategy in case nervousness took its toll of his wits. When the in specting officer stopped before him, and asked, "Whats your mune, soldier?” the cadet’s snappy reply was, “I don’t know, sir!” Then the stage fright of the day came as the regiment marched past the reviewing stand on the! air strip. Company commander’s voices cracked as commands were given between the band and the review ing stand. "Ready, front!” could almost be heard for three ranks behind the commanding officer. Immediately after the review, the men were massed in a mob formation before the public ad dress system and complimented by Colonel Horner, head of the inspecting team. After Colonel Horner came Colonels Boatner and Melcher, then the little white-haired gentleman who counts the grade-points, Dr. J. P. Abbott. Long hours of work this term went into this federal inspection. From all reports, it seems that the Annex Regiment made a favorable impression and did their part to wards keeping that little blue star. Drill Team Holds Two Exhibitions The Freshman Drill Team and the Freshman Band held a Formal Guard Mount immediately after the Federal Inspection in ranks for the visiting inspection team, headed by Col. A. A. Horner. The drill team immediately aft erward performed an exhibition drill for the inspecting officers, lusting 16 minutes. Colonel Homer commended the unit, calling their performance “a splendid show of precision drilling.” The Drill Team held another ex hibition Monday evening in honor of the Annex staff and faculty, performink on . the air strip at Bryan Field.
