Dobson Named To Committee for Exhibits By TOMMY MARTINEZ A Faculty Committee on Arrangements, composed of )r. W. J. Dobson, Professor E. MacAfee and Professor H. Ransdell, has been ap- ointed by Dr. J. P. Abbott, dean t the college at the Annex, and is iiaking plana for the display to be xhibited Mother’s Day. Dr. Merkle, who has traveled exten sively in the northwestern parts of North America and the United States, spoke on “The Pacific Northwest” and showed m^ny slides to the audience; Emphasizing the terrain, the fo liage of trees and plants, and flow ers in that region—Oregon, Wash ington, and part of Canada—Dr. Merkle was assisted by his wife, |who showed the slides. At the meeting, held Thursday night, Haydon Jenkins, ^president of the club, appointed two new commijttees, a social committee; to plan for a club party this spring, and a committee to select a gift from the club for their |riuch«HH at the annual Cotton Bull aWl Pag eant. Ferguson, will be heW May 6.; Regiment To \ . j Have Federal Inspection * Federal Inspection of the Fresh man Regiment will begin Friday Hiorning, April 29, at 9 a.in. The inspecting party will be headed by Col. A. A. Horner, Executive Of ficer of the Texas Military Dis trict. All Friday morning classes will be postponed, making it possible for Annex Freshmen to attend all formations. The Post Office and Snack Bar have been declared “off limits” to all. cadets on iFriday morning. Freshmen. Cadets will be required to remain in their*! imme diate barrack’s area in case any special formations are called. The inspecting party will begin the formal inspection Friday morn ing at 9 a.m. with an “Inspection in Ranks.” At 9:30, with the ca dets still in formation, the party will inspect the barracks and bar rack’s area. Following the Formal Guard Mount demonstration given by the drill team and band at 10 a.m., the Fresh men Drill team will perforin for the inspecting officers. At 10:30, a Regimental Review of the entire Freshmen Regiment will be held on tho air strip at Bryan Field. I By W. W. ALDRIDGE J * -r j Tho 1949 Engineering Drawing Competation at A&M will begin Saturday afternoon at 1, said B. R K. Mullins, instructor of the Engineering Drawing Department at the Annex and one of the sponsors of the contest. Contestants at the Annex will report to Room 4, Building 367 therfe, he said. Contest time is limited, said Mullins,, to the hours between 1 and 5 p.m. Participants are to re port to the designated room, he said, with all their regular draft ing equipment, textbooks or ref erence material if desired, and scratch paper needed for each ejass competition. The paper on which the contest drawings Will be made, however, will be furnish ed by the E. D. department. A title strip form for each draw ing and other specific problem in formation is outlined on sheets to be supplied at the same time of the contest, said! Mullins. Each contestant will be limited to one of the (following | classes of com petition: J Class A: A shop drawing in pencil on tracing paper; first prize, set of drawing instru ments. Class B: Complete solution of a descriptive geometry problem, data of which wi >1 be supplied at time of contest; I’irst prize, large portable drafting machine. Class C: freehand lettering, to be judged for technique, word and letter spacing, arrangement and general appearance; first prize, portable drafting machine. Class D: freehand pictorial sketch on plain white, heavy drawing paper, without use of scale, straight edge, or any drawing instrument of any kind; first prize, small portable draft ing machine. Prizes of a commensurate value wilj be given for second and third plai’e awards in jejach Class, said Mullins, and attractive souvenir prizes will be givten to all contes- tanjts. The show will be open to any type of talent, said freshman class president Ralph W. Rowe, who, along with Luke Harrison, Annex dean of men, is planning the pro gram. Entry blanks for the contest are published in today’s Battalion on the Freshman page, and must be turned in by 8 p.m. Friday night* April 2y. Entries will be accepted in Harrison’s office in the admin istration building at the Annex until 5 b.m., after which they may be turned in at the Campus Secur ity office until 8. An exact time and date have not been set for the show, but will be announced as soon as possible, Harrison said.
