L. Grand! of the electrical engineering depart ment spoke cn '“Financing and Providing Facilities for Higher Education.” He said that the commission predicts 4.900,000 students in college in 1960. The commission’s recommenda tion was summarized as follows: “High school Education for all nor mal youth; two years of college education; shsiild b/ as common as high school is now, financial aid must he; provided for education from tenth grade through junior College; Ipwer cost for students in the senior colleges; adult educa tion to be provider! for those who want it; public education must be provided for all alike.” Professor S. H. Hopkins of the biology department summarized . the crim mission’s report on “Stratifying Higher Education.”. This report Was concerned with the number J of faculty needed. hy needed and recommendation for training them. He pointed out that “yro had 155,000 college teachers ip 1945 and would need 350,000 by 1950. This; increased demand for teach ers is due to - new types of courses” he haul, “increased college enroll ment and special services to be rendjered in our educational pro- graips.” ..ji' ijj ' j. '■ The Commission recommended internship training for college teachers similar to internships for medjeal |i doctors, Hopkins said.
