ing, team tying, and calf roping.
The six men from A&M entered
all events. Stone, Griffith, and
Roberts entered the tiding events,
while Kruse and Wood displayed
their skill at roping. Day acted as
all-purpose man Since he was able
to rope or ride.
Every university or college could'
enter six men in the contest. There 1
was no restriction in thejinumber
of events that either a toper or
rider could enter. Rules followed at
the rodeo were those set forth by
| the Rodeo (jloWboy Association.
Teams who participated last year
were from the Universities of
Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and
Wyoming, Colorado A&M, New
Mexico A&M. Arizona State Col
lege, California Polytechnic School
and California College of Agricul
ture. Ove» four thousand fans
watched last year’s rodeo.
Intercollegiate rodeos owe at
least part of their origin to the
Universities of Arizona and of Vic 7l
torville, California;
Before the intercollegiate rodeos
of either the Universities of Ari
zona or Victorville were organized*
college rodeos had /& vigorous Start
at A&M. The first/ A&M show was
held here in 1919. This was nof
strictly a rodeo. It was called a
livestock novelty show and was
made up of livestock classes, pa-j
rades, and riding contests. This
event was repeated the following
year. /j j
In the fall of 1921, A&M Held
its first college rodeo, and thus
it appears quite evident that this
contest antedates all other col
lege rodeos by at least fifteen
years. Since that time, rodeos
have been held annually at A&M
