The following sketches of these school officials will be of assistance to the student in ac quainting himself with these men who guide the destiny of the var ious branches of the college: T. D. Brooks Dr. Brooks, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and of the Graduate School is a graduate of Baylor and received his Ph. D. and If you have anything but a broken heart we can mend it! Lauterstein’s M. A. degrees at the University of Chicago. He has served as princi pal and superintendent of schools at Hillsboro, as president of South western State Normal College of Oklahoma, and as mayor of the city of Waco during his employ ment as professor in Baylor Uni versity. Gibb Gilchrist In his career, Dean Gilchrist has held many jobs of importance throughout the state of Texas. Graduating from the University of Texas in 1909, he was assistant engineer and head engineer of the Santa Fe Railroad, and has served as division engineer of the high way department at San Antonio. He was made state highway engi neer in 1924. From 1925 until 1928 he was consulting engineer in Dallas, Texas. From 1928 until 1937 he returned to the highway department as state highway en gineer. KYLE officer in the Engineer Corps du ring the Wold War I. In 1937 he was made dean of engineering at Texas A. & M., and is devoting his efforts to placing more A. & M. engineers in modern industries and in positions vital to our war ef fort. R. P. Marsteller Dean Marsteller attended Ohio State University, receiving the de- gre^e of Doctor of Veterinary Med icine in 1905. He came to A. &M. in November of that year as in structor and assistant veterinarian for the Agricultural Experiment Station. He succeeded Dr. Mark Francis as dean of veterinary med icine. E. J. Kyle A graduate of A. & M. in 1899, Dean Kyle first became a member of the teaching staff in 1902. He was head of the Horticulture De partment when he was made dean of agriculture when this school was created in 1911. He holds two de grees from Cornell University in cluding a M. S. A. He is the author of three books and numerous pub lications in the field of agriculture and world economics. He toured the Central and South American continent in 1941. He is an out standing figure in the growth and development of agriculture in the South.
