It’s a musicians’ tune, written by musicians, no less a combination in fact that Phil Na poleon, famed New Orleans cor- netist; Frank Signorelli, hot jazz pianist, and Eddie DeLang. In slow ballad tempo, the number is simple but extremely effective, opening with Tommy’s trombone soloing in the middle register against sustained chords in the sax section. Frank Sinatra voices the second chorus and Dorsey solos out. The reverse, “Another One of Them Things” is a Sy Oliver ar rangement punched out in medium swing time. Ziggy Elman with his powerhouse trumpet is the feature performer. 27204 “One O’Clock Jump” “Blues In Thirds” —Sidney Bechet and his New Orlean Feetwarm- ers The first is a fast tempo affair with Sonny White on piano, Wil son Meyers, bass; Charlie Howard, guitar, and Kenny Clarke, drums. The latter, as indicated by the title, is a blues tune with a dou ble melody developed in a parallel line a musical third apart. This side is a trio performance with Earl Hines at the piano, and “Baby” Dodds, drums; in a com position by Hines himself. B-10940 We’ll Meet Again” “Make It Another Old Fashioned, Please” —Mitchell Ayres and his Fashions-in-Music Mitchell Ayres takes a turn at the wheel of the Cole Porter— “Panama Hattie” bandwagon with a smooth interpretation of “Make It Another Old Fashioned, Please”. The reverse is “We’ll Meet Again”, displaying Mitchell Ayres’ decid edly different style, gradiose phras ing, skittering alto and full tonal quality. Mary Ann Mercer sings both. * 26790 A HANDFUL OF STARS —F. T. LOVE OF MY LIFE—F. T. Artie Shaw and His Orchestra Artie Shaw rolls another double down the groove he has worn smooth in the past few weeks, leading his full band through two film tunes: “A Handful of Stars”, from MGM’s “Hullabaloo”, and “Love of My Life”, from Para mount’s “Second Chorus” (Shaw’s own picture). The orchestrations are rich and Artie’s clarinet as in tricate and skillful as ever. Vo calist is Anita Boyer. » Notice R. V. Juniors Now is the time to order your uniform.
