Travis San Antonio TWENTY SCHOOLS DEFEATED BY THE PISTOL TOTERS TEAM MEMBERS LEAVE MANY RECORDS BROKEN Those Texas Aggies can do more than win a National football title, for the pistol team from Texas A. & M. College duplicated the feat of the grid team and went through their season undefeated and un tied to capture the national in tercollegiate pistol championship for the second consecutive year. To repeat as champions they is sued challenges to every college in the United States which was listed by the U. S. Army as hav ing an R.O.T.C. pistol team and then defeated all of the 20 schools which accepted the challenges. Their score of 1425 of a possible 1500 fired the week ending April 27 was the best of the season and defeated University of Wisconsin’s 1310 and St. Xavier’s 1387. The lowest Aggie pistolman shot an aggregate 284 to best Wisconsin’s best man by 17 points and St. Xavier’s best by two points. In that match Louis Kennemer, a junior, shot a' 288, another mem ber shot 285 and the remaining three tied at 284. Kennemer shot a 292 earlier in the season for a new college record and the team total of 1425 left a new mark for all future teams to aim at. Teams defeated this season in clude: Ohio State, Penn State, Harvard, University of Illinois, Cornell, Arkansas State Teachers College, East Kentucky Teachers College, Michigan State College, University of Utah, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M. I. T.), Yale University, Colorado State The sprint relay will go some thing like this: Texas, Rice, A. & M., S. M. U. Points: Texas 5, Rice 3, A. & M. 2, S. M. U. 1. MUSTANGS TODAY Bumpers or Bass To Be On Mound For The Karow-men By Jack Hollimon The Texas Aggies and the Southern Methodist Mustangs will clash on Kyle Field this afternoon at 2:30 p. m. in a battle for second place in the current baseball race. The Mustangs will be trying to oust the Farmers from the num ber two position while the cadets will be striving to strengthen their hold. Coach Karow’s selection for the mound duties will be either Walter “Sam” Bass or “Lefty” Bumpers, while the Ponies are due to use Brooks Atchison, star Methodist hurler. Reeves of Luling became the owner, editor and publisher of The Bryan News, succeeding W. L. Williams. Mr. Reeves arrived Mon day afternoon and took charge. Mr. Reeves is an experienced newspaper man and practical print er, having been in the printing and allied trades since his youth. For fourteen years he was the owner and publisher of The Luling Sig nal at Luling, Texas. College, United States Military Academy (West Point), Virginia Military Institute, Iowa State Col lege, St. Benaventure- College, St. Xavier College, University of Wis consin, and Purdue University, and Oklahoma. Utah gave the Aggies the clos est call by shooting a score of 1396 as the cadets hit for a 1402 total. Michigan State was an other close match with the scores showing 1389 for A. & M. and 1380 for Michigan. Purdue, the only team to beat the Aggies in 1939, was badly de feated this year. Members of the team this year incldue: Bob Shiels Jr., Dallas, cap tain; W. E. Lewis, College Station; Eugene Shiels, Dallas; C. A. Lewis, College Station; Bert Burns, Port Arthur; Louis Kennemer, Surphur Springs; W. D. C. Jones, Temple; J. M. Singleton, Lufkin; and H. C. Warner, College Station. The pistol team is recognized as official by the college and all members must satisfy the same scholastic regulations as any other team representing the college. No freshmen can be members of the team. Total investment in the campus of the University of California at Los Angeles is $12,000,000. That would show that Texas will win with 71 points and A. & M. take second with 45 ahead of Rice with 37, but what will probably happen is that Rice will take a relay away from Texas and A. & M. will run out of the money in some events we have picked them for fourth in. Bryan or see FLOP COLSON Polo Freshman Team To Play Freebooters Sunday on Jackson Field the Ag gie polo freshmen will face the College Station Freebooters in six chukkers of the hard-riding game. The freshmen have recently re turned from a road trip with the R. O. T. C. team to south Texas where they met defeat at the hands of the Shreveport Polo and Riding Club. McGowan and Muirhead were the standouts for the Fish as they fell before their home town team 6 to 5. The R. O. T. C. team defeated the Gulf city team at the end of the fourth chucker, 5 to 3, as the game was called when rain came down. The Freebooters are made up of men who play polo for the enjoy ment in the game, exes, those men who ai’e ineligible, and those men who failed to make the varsity team. The Aggie varsity team left Wednesday for games in the West against New Mexico Institute, Lampasas and Lubbock. Eight signers of the Declaration of Independence were Harvard graduates. Texas Technological College at Lubbock is organizing a polo team. Students spend 21,000 hours a year standing in line during regis tration periods.
