Under the present plan two aldermen will be elected one year and three alderemen and a mayor the next. It is my belief that a better plan would he to have two aldermen and a mayor elected one year and three aldermen the next. This would call for the election of three members of the council each year. My resignation at this time will provide an opportunity for such a plan to be inaugurated at the April election. 2. Along with such other per sonal reasons as may exist for my resignation, I need only men tion the fact that I have found that my duties as mayor prevent : my having time to carry out cer tain plans that I have had in mind for a number of years. I have i always made it a point not to neg- ■ lect in any way my professional duties, but when a choice needed , to be made between my personal business and social affairs and the affairs of the city, I have con scientiously decided in favor of the city. You will recall that my services did not begin with in corporation, but began about a year previously as chairman of the citizen’s committee on incorpora tion. The work of this committee demanded a great deal of my time and effort. The demands of the office of mayor increase right along and I feel that I have de-1 voted as much time and effort to j l community affairs as I can afford. Therefore, I respectfully submit hereby my resignation as mayor to become effective at once, unless there is some reason for my con tinuing until my successor quali fies. I want to express to you gentle men and to each other official of the city, both past and present severally and collectively, my sin cere appreciation for the coopera tion you have given me. My asso ciations and work with you, on the whole, have been very helpful and pleasing to me. To the citizens of College Sta tion, who so generously accorded as a very great honor in electing me as their mayor, I am most humbly grateful. It is with deep regret and considerable hesitation., but not without a great deal of deliberation, that I have found it necessary to take this step. Respectfully submitted, J. H. Binney, Mayor.
