The time is now suitable to make
praise of things that have passed
in an athletic way. Whether or not
the business of yell practice and
yell leaders is linked with athletics
I am not sure; but as the honorable
Judge Lindsay told the dishonor
able Bishop Cannon, “Oh, what th’
hell, Bish.” I will endeavor to find
words and phrases which justify
the work of our chief and capable,
nay, most capable and efficient yell
leader, Jay U. (Two Pistol) Par
ker.
I have listened to five chief yell
leaders since enrolling at this in
stitution of higher knowledge.
Some were good, others, fair, some
mediocre, and still others excellent.
Of course, we have NO poor yell
leaders at A and M. Although pic
ture shows are judged according to

the number of stars curtailing the
title, I will endeavor not to differ
entiate between the rank of these
five in this manner.
In the first place, we won a con
ference championship in the year
1927. Rudy Yallee could have been
a wonderful yell chief that year for
we had a winning team. But, Allen
Peoples was a yell leader of the
old school—he was an excellent
preacher of the Aggie religion.
Next came “Cue Ball” Cook, a
three year man. He was without
the entire support of the senior
class that year, but laboring under
this handicap, he came out fairly
well.
Then came dear ol’ Hop Rey
nolds, “the leader of bind sheep.”
Hop certainly had that line of bull,
bologney, and still more bull. He
was a well-known figure around
the campus, and “got on” tremen
dously with the boys. The “third
lieutenant” was also a fair hand
at calling Farmers Fight.
Following Hop was Freddie Bu
ford last year. Fred had a hard
time because of the poor showing
the team made. The jokes and per
sonal remarks carried on last year
were somewhat risque in tone and
quality, and hardly befitted yell
practice. At that, Freddie got along
well.
Now, as 1931 is closing upon
“Two Gun” we will continue. I
think that Parker’s name should go
down the list in rank with such
men as “Dutch” Hohn, “Beaumont”
Buck, “Preacher” Durst, Allen Peo
ples and the rest of the more fa
mous yell chiefs of Aggie tradi
tion. Parker has the “stuff” and
there are few men, if any, will dis
agree with me. Although A and M
has not won any championship, lost
several of its games, Parker has
had the influence and ability to
keep the corps together better than
any other leader since ’27. He has
innovated new yells, new forma
tions, and worked with all concern
ed to the utmost. He has “bulled”
when it seemed the proper time to
do so, but has cut it out when there
was work to do. He has whipped
the corps into shape better than
any yell leader in the past five
years. He has smiled through ad
verse criticism and has proved the
right man.
Let’s “spell it out” for Parker.
Scoring statistics for the sea
son’s play to date show that fif
teen men of the Aggie team have
accounted for some sort of score.
Aston and Rees lead with 13 points
each to their credit. The Aggies
are second only to the Mustangs
in points scored by the conference
teams this year, and yet they have
no high scorer. A good sign of
team-work.

New York, Nov. 3.—Speaking
before the session of the Institute

that nations must develop national

go over the precipice of destruc

at an important climax right now,
he said, with the future depending
a great deal on present day leader
