Finny To Study Architecture Abroad Clarence J. Finny, associate profes sor of architecture, plans to spend the summer in England studying English- Gothic architecture of which there are excellent exaraples throughout the British Isles. Mr. Finny will probably establish a summer residence in Lon don from which he will travel to Scotland and several other countries. He plans to use the various libraries in London, especially the architectural library of the Kensington Museum, which contains excellent works on Gothic architecture, and the National Museum. Mr. Finny has chosen the English-Gothic style of architecture for study because he considers it rhe greatest contribution England has made to true architecture. Mr. hinny has received an invita tion from the city of Berlin to visit their German building exhibition and international town planning and hous ing exhibition. As che exhibitions will be from May 9 to August 2, Mr. Finny intends to visit Berlin sometime dur ing che summer. The houses on display will be of the type used by large indus trial plants for the housing of cheir employees, in America, houses of sim ilar construction are used in Henry Ford’s housing project in Detroit. In the town planning and housing phase of the exhibition, various ways of handling pedestrian and vehicle traf fic will be dealt with as well as means of separating the residential part of the town from the business district and the forming of community centers. Nearly every summer Mr. Finny has studied the styles of architecture of difierent places, both at home and abroad. For six months in 1924 and for the same length of time again in 1926 he travelled through France and Italy. He has spent summers in Bos ton, Washington, and New Orleans studying local styles of architecture. Mr. Finny plans to leave for England about June 1 and he will return some time in September. GIRL FRIENDS WILL APPRE CIATE A BEAUTIFUL CORSAGE. Bryan 266-R1 Bryan A period of depression might have struck at other organizations during Ihe past year, but that it has yet to strike the business of graduating col lege students at A & M is evidenced by the fact that approximately the same number of students here will re ceive the much coveted “sheepskin” this year as did last. Three hundred and thirty-five stu dents have signified their intentions of getting their bachelor degrees this year by making formal application for degrees in the registrar’s office. Only 306 students were graduated by the college last year, 29 less than have applied this year. However, it must be remembered that some of those who hope to graduate will not do so. There are nine candidates for mas ters’ degrees and two for professional degrees. Thirteen departments showed an increase in the number of applicants this year over the number of gradu ates last year, while three depart ments showed a decrease and two showed no fluctuation in the figures at all. There are two hopefuls for de grees in petroleum engineering while there were none last year. This is explained by the fact that this de partment was created only last year. Six prospective graduates are enroll ed in the department of veterinary medicine, while only one student was graduated from this department last year. Number of applicants for degrees by courses follow: (Note: Number graduated in each department last year is shown by fig ures in parentheses) Ag.
