WALDROP & CO. BRYAN AND COLLEGE FREE THROWS (Continued from Page 8) ting him over in athletics. It takes confidence to make athletes. Some athletes do become conceited, but also the “highly intellectual” stu dents who attain such high positions as editorial writers on school papers fall into the depths of conceit. So athletes are doomed to be con ceited, dumb idols of their respec tive schools. That too bad. Not be ing very well versed on the sub ject of athletics, as has been evidenc ed by his writing, our friend, the editorial writer, has very probably never heard of Wear Schoonover, All-American end and All-American forward from the Univ. of Arkan sas. Now here is an example of the editorial writers average athlete. A few of the things Schoonover has ac complished during his four years at Arkansas include being president of the senior class, attaining highest scholastic mark among male stu dents for four consecutive years, CANDIDATE FOR RHODES SCH OLARSHIP, president of his frater nity, captain of varsity football and basketball teams, and considered by his fellow classmates, as being one of the greatest all-around students ever to attend the institution. An other example. Gerald Mann, South ern Methodist, who was also the leading student scholastically during his stay in college, president of the senior class and a few other little trival things. The editorial writer might look up the records of a few Aggies. At present Hebe Dorsey is considered one of the leaders in the stiff geology course, George Zara- fonetis is a star chemistry pupil, and Johnnie Konecny, veteran basketeer, made six A’s both terms last year. Our contention is, Mr. Editorial writ er, that you are very damp. This is the way we have you fig ured out. If you attend the athletic contests, as all loyal Aggies should, you yell for the team and pull for an A. and M. victory. You laud a play made by one of these same boys, whom you term as worthless para sites of the college. On the other hand, if you hate the athletes so much that you don’t attend the ath letic contests, you don’t belong around this place.” Howzat? HANDBALL STARTS (Continued from Page 8) Co. B Sig. This leaves the rear po sitions open for new men and at present it looks as though Bell and Broiles are on top, but Veltman and Harling are showing exceptional promise.
