THE BATTAEION OWLS DEFEAT AGGIES In a rough and tumble game, re plete with fouls on both sides, the Rice Owls fought their way to their second conference victory by defeating the Texas Aggies, 33 to 30. As the score indicates, the game was very close, both teams taking the lead at various stages of the con test; but what pained us most was that Rice had the lead when the final pistol shot rang out on the still night air. For such a close game it was not very exciting, in fact at times it was exceedingly dull. It would probably have helped matters if the referee’s whistle had not sounded so often, as it is lots more thrilling to see a man heave one in the basket from scrim mage than to see him calmly wind up and cast it in from the foul line. Rice showed more efficiency in this branch of the game, making 9 free throws out of a possible 15 while the Aggies made 6 out of a possible 14. That was the deciding factor of the game, the honors being even in making field goals. The Rice Owls showed a greatly improved machine over their early season model. Their victory over Baylor Saturday night must have giv en them renewed vim and vigor. We feel sorry for their next opponents. The Aggies put up a good fight and at times played very brilliantly, but failure to make all the free throws cost the game. The feature of the evening was the spectacular playing of “Sheik” Da vis. He was here, there, everywhere, making the Owls dizzy in their efforts to keep up with him. His aggressive ness was enough to make him high- point man of the game with 14 points. Morgan of Rice was second with 13 points. The summary tells the story. Summary: A. & M. Player— FG. FT. PF. TP.
