The game will not only be a deciding fac tor in the Southwestern Conference race, but will just about decide who will be quarterback on that mythical All-Conference eleven. Add to that the fact that the winner of this sen sational contest may be given a chance to play a New Years game on the Pacific coast and then think what a game it will be. ❖ ❖ ❖ Saturday’s game will see in action two of the strongest teams the South west Conference has known in years. The Mustangs are leading the Con ference with a perfect average, while the Aggies are trailing only a half game behind. The M,ustangs, who have not lost a conference game in two years, showed a dazzling offense and an impregnable defense in defeating Missouri of the Missouri Valley Con- (ference, victor over Nebraska and Northwestern, and Texas and Rice of the Southwestern Conference. The Aggies have shown a brilliant attack in defeating Sewanee, Arkansas, and Texas Tech, and in these victories their line appeared to be one of the best the conference has had in recent years. The Aggies and T. C. U. Frogs played a 0 to 0 tie in Fort Worth, but three of A. and M.’s backfield stars were out of the line-up with injuries. If the Mustangs defeat the Aggies Saturday, football critics believe that the S. M. U. eleven will march un defeated to 'its second consecutive championship. If the Aggies defeat the Mustangs, critics expect the Ag gies to win the championship, provid ed they can handle the Longhorns on Kyle Field Thanksgiving. ❖ ❖ ❖ Another added attraction for Sat urday will be a cross-country race between the Aggies and the Long horns which will end on Kyle Field between halves of the football game. ❖ ❖ * The Aggies cross-country team is going to put up a strong bid for the conference championship this yeatr, (Continued on page 9) INTRAMURAL ATHLETICS Much Enthusiasm Shown by Student Body in Games This Year. Up to date intra-mural sports in Aggieland this year have shown a vast increase in both interests and participants over any records of the past. There is a reason. A large number of both freshmen and upper classmen who are possessors of nat ural ability and ambitions worthy of any sportsman are given their trial and a number make good, resulting- in additional varsity material. At present basketball, volleyball, and tennis are the games now in intra-mural season. The cross-coun try track meet will be held in the early part of December and those who are planning to enter are urged to be ready when the date set arrives. With a continuation of the present interests, A. & M. College will set a record for intra-mural sports that will be hard for any other college or university to equal, and it is hoped that each man will do his part. AGGIES DEFEAT TEXAS TECH. 47-0 Mixing a deadly overhead attack with occasional end runs and off tack le brushes by Hunt, the Texas Aggies overpowered the hard-fighting Texas Tech eleven last Friday by a score of 47 to 6. Tech started off with a startling- defense for the Aggie line rushes, but in the latter period the Maroon’s be wildering passing attack completely swept the Matadors off their feet. A. & M. scored first with a safety in the first few minutes of play bu; Tech came back with a touchdown by Nichlaus and the quarter ended with Tech leading, 6 to 2. In the second quarter the Aggies brought the ball to the Tech one-yard line by a long pass, Hunt to Petty, and then Hunt crashed right tackle for the Aggies’ first touchdown of the game. The half ended with the score 8 to 6 in favor of A. & M. The Aggies “got right” in the third quarter and gave the West Texas fans an exhibition of running and passing that they will never forget. Pinky Alsabrook showed-off in front of his home folks by making a couple of touchdowns and Joel Hunt, not to be outdone by his roommate, made a couple himself. The half ended with the score 8 to 6 in favor of A. & M. The fourth quarter was a repetition of the third, with every man in the backfield carrying the ball for sub stantial gains. Conover and Davis each got a touchdown in this period, Conover going over left tackle for his and Davis circling right end for the other. This game marked the return to the lineup of Conover and Varnell in the backfield, and Wylie 1 in the line. Wylie must have been doing good be cause the coach let him stay in the game longer than any man on the team. “Sloppy” Rogers turned in a nice game too. Willie Bartlett made his presence felt by blocking a punt on the Tech 5 yard line, in addition to playing his usual bang-up game. In the backfield Pinky Alsabrook was the individual star, although Hunt performed in brilliant fashion. It would be difficult to name all the stars, as so many played, and in a game like that everyone looks good. “Now that you’ve finished college, what do you intend.to do?” “I’m going to work with you, Dad.” “But Great Scott, I’ve retired!” “Exactly, Pop.” MUSTANGS INVADE AGGIELAND NOV. 5 Spectacular Battle Expected. Next Saturday after the - last whistle blows in the fray between the Texas Aggies and S. M. U. Mustangs the winner of the Southwestern Con ference Championship will, to a large extent, have been determined. S. M. U., the leaders in the race, winners of title last year, and the favorites for honor this year, only need this vic tory to cinch the title for them and the Aggies, second in standing for the honor, will need the victory to remain in the race. Aggies Have All to Lose and Nothing to Gain The Aggies have all to lose and nothing to gain for victory will leave them practically in the same relative position as they are now and if they lose—they lose all. For this reason if no other, the Ponies should encount er an inspired Aggie team next Sat urday. However recent history shows that the Ponies have won from in spired Aggie teams, the score in 1922 v/as 17 to 6 in favor of the Mustangs and in 1923 they won by score of 10 to 0. In 1924 they battled to a 7 to 7 tie in Dallas and next year the Ag gies, backed by a fighting, crying and yelling corps, were lucky to nose them out in a 7 to 0 victory. That year conditions were much as they are this year, both teams were evenly match ed in defense and running attack but the Mustang’s aerial attack was far superior to that of the Aggies. The Aggies took the lead in early part of the game and fought to maintain it, 2300 of them, and they were success ful. Game Will Be Won in First Quarter In like manner the game next Sat urday will probably be played, as the Aggies are slow at beginning their drive while S. M. U. usually begins like a tornado; both teams are equally matched with the exception of S. M. U. having the edge on the passing- ability of Mann, and the Aggies, to win, will have to fight hardest in the first quarter. Both Teams Playing Air Route The teams of S. M. U. have always been noted for their aerial combina tion and the team that Bible has put out this year is the greatest passing- team in the history of the school, both teams have brilliant defensive merits, for these reasons tha game will likely open up in the air. Hunt is a great passer but Mann is more
