GAYLE, Manager Changes made in the official foot ball rules for 1927 provide “the greatest experiment that has been made with the college game since the institution of the forward pass,” writes Robert F. Kelly of the sport staff of the New York “Times” in an article, “Putting More Fun Into Football,” in the September issue of “Association Men,” the national organ of the Y. M. C. A. The most significant change, in Mr. Kelly’s opinion, is that which makes the lateral passes, except those from the snapper-back, become dead if in- completed. Of this Mr. Kelly says: “Most of all, are we to see a change in the usage of ball passing. It will be remembered that the late Fred Moore, for so many years graduate treasurer at Harvard, introduced and put over at the last rule meeting the safeguarding of the lateral pass. “Ever since then, when football fanatics have gathered, the lateral pass has raised a storm of discussion. The issue will be settled on the play ing field.” “The moving of the goal posts back ward, to make the try-for-point after touchdown more difficult, will make it “seem funny when we first sit in football stadiums this year,” Mr. Kelly remarks. “Also this year we are no longer to see the frantic throat-catching scramble after muf fed punts.” A muffed ball may no longer be advanced beyond the point of recovery. “To those of us who are more or less disinterested observers it seems that the changes are apt to prove to be of real benefit to the game,” he adds. ♦J*- •»$»• ♦J* +$*■ -»$*• ■*$*• *$»• ■»$«• ■*$* ■*$+ ■*$*■ ❖ EAT A BURGER AT ❖ ❖ DAD COLE’S * ❖ When You Are Hungry ❖ ❖ Between Leggett and Bat- *** ❖ Roost Halls -b ♦Jt ■*$•■+$♦ *$*■ ■*$*■ '*$*■ ‘•J* '*$»■ ^ = | $ 4.50 O.
