1 2 THE BATTALION HEDGES AND BRAYTON EDIT NEW TEXTBOOK FOR INORGANIC CHEMISTRY is Green” used by the Government, and co-author with W. A. Stone of “A Method for Analysis of Lead Ar senate.” Dr. C. C. Hedges, head of the de partment of chemistry and chemical engineering and H. R. Brayton, pro fessor of inorganic chemistry, of the A. and M. College of Texas, are the authors of a new chemistry textbook bearing the title of “Laboratory Man ual of Inorganic Chemistry and Ele mentary Qualitative Analysis,” be ing published by D. C. Heath and Company, New York. This text will be used with all classes in general chemistry this fall at the A. and M. College. It was developed by the authors as the result of ten years of its actual use in the laboratory with freshman classes. A unique feature of this text is that experiment formulas are printed in it on gummed and perforated paper. These formulas may be detached and used in any style of note book. Sev eral institutions from pre-publication examinations of the manuscript are considering its adoption as a text book. Dr. Hedges is the author of several other textbooks among them being “Laboratory Manual of Agricultural Chemistry,” published first by Ginn and Qompany in 1908. He is the co author with W. T. Bryant of the “Official Method for Analysis of Par- IF OUR PROFS. USED YELL PRAC TICE PHRASEOLOGY. Get fightin’ mad for that old fac ulty gang! Therefore there must be profit in farming, because it goes on year after year. Profit is all contained in the margin between selling prices and production costs. On this margin a few farmers “go broke,” others make a good living and many grow wealthy. Since the selling price at any given time is the same to all farmers it is evident that prosperous farmers are producing at lower costs than those who do not prosper. How do they do it*? Mostly by cutting- down power and labor costs through the use of more efficient machinery. It it significant that many of the most prosperous farms are equipped with Case machines—built and sold since .1842 to make more money for their owners. J~ I.
