THE BATTALION 7 1 A. & M.-LOUISIANA DEBATE HELD LAST SATURDAY At a banquet held last Saturday night, in the new annex, the A. and M. debating team made its initial ap pearance before an audience of ap proximately sixty people. The appar ent exclusiveness of the debate was due to one to be held in March in volving the same question: “Resolved: That Congress Should Enact Legis lation Embodying the Principles of the McNary-Haugen Farm Bills.” A. and M. took the affirmative side against Louisiana State University, who offered the opposition last week, but they will have the negative against Kansas University, with whom the next debate will be held. Although there was no decision as to who won the debate, the general belief is that the experience of the visiting team gave them an advan tage over the Aggies, who were ap pearing for the first time. J. R. Wood, a member of the A. and M. team, was chairman of the debate. Dr. T. O. Walton made a short address welcoming the L. S. U. team and voicing his approval of the fur therance of debating at A. and M. LOWLY OWLS NO MATCH FOR AGGIES. Discussions have been under way for some time with the University re gents unyielding. The A. and M. Col lege claims a share of the fund, as being a branch of the University. At the coming meeting, the A. and M. board will be informed that it would be a heavy loser by accepting a divis ion and acknowledging in law that it is a branch of the University subject to the constitutional restriction im- | posed on the University that it shall not be eligible to receive any appro priations from the State for buildings. Figures cited in support of the Uni versity’s position fix the maximum expectancy of the oil royalty at $15,- 000,000, it now being $5,500,000, and, with the division suggested, two- thirds to the University and ojne- third to A. and M., the latter would receive approximately $5,000,000. That sum invested in bonds at 4 per cent would yield only $200,000. Taking the $200,000 as a part of the University would automatically render the col lege ineligible to receive further ap propriations for buildings, is the con tention made. xsixiMaa s3Nor nvwvn "aa be awarded medals by the Athletic Department.
