Many are mystified, some are in- dignignant, at Albany, New York, over the report that the Exalted Or der of the Ku Klux Klan has been in corporated for over a year in the guise of a Greek letter fraternity, the Alpha Pi Sigma. The papers of incorporation char acterise the Alpha Pi Sigma as a “purely fraternal, patriotic society” which will ‘own and control all re galia necessary to the proper conduct of its affairs” and will ‘hold meet ings in groves”, not only in the state of New York but also “in the entire United States.” “Boy, page Cy Edwards. This new society is said to have been organized by the Klan as a way out of difficulties caused by nullifiica- tion proceedings against the incorpor ation of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. These proceedings were due to the fact that alterations were made in the papers of incorporation be tween the time they were approved by the Supreme Court Judge, George E. Pierce in Buffalo and subsequent fill ing in Albany. Suspicious as to the true nature of this “frat” was aroused when it was learned that Wilson D. Bush, Kleagle and personal representative form At lanta, in New York, whom loyal klans- men call “His Excellency”, is mention ed in the incorporation papers of the society as its president. The phrase declaring that “both sexes” are eligi ble for membership also aroused sus picion. Then a comparison of these papers with the nullified documents of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan revealed their very startling simil arity. Supreme Court Justice Charles L. Guy, who approved of and consented to the certificate of incorporation, when told what had been learned about the Alpha Pi Sigma, expressed indignation. He said that when he approved the papers of incorporation that they were for a college fraterni ty. Robert L. Noah, who drew up the papers declared that he thought Alpha Pi Sigma was to be a general fraternity to which college men who belonged to any fraternity would be eligible. o y vbm -The New Student.
