Dere Rummit: Ho-hum, gurls are getting on my nerves again. They are like a sore toe anyhow, you know that Tom. You remember when I was tollin’ you about my town and mentioned the mule being dead three weeks in the postoffice? Well I used to go with the postmasters daughter in my home town but I had nearly conveniently forgotten that until she wrote to me the other day. She said that I was ruining her father’s business (the postoffice business) by making such statements and she went on further to elucidate that I shouldn’t knock on my home town. Like Grape Nuts tho’ there’s a rea son for all these things. I got the idea of the three weeks from Elinor Glyn’s comedy-dramer, my major re minded me of the mule, and o’course the postoffice was the most convenient place for it to be funny for a mule to die, unless it was at a regular meet ing of the Ladies Aid Society. But then the gurl in question didn’t un derstand that so ya see I am a martyr to her dumbness. But self-sacrific ing—you very well know that that s been me always. Say boy, I’ve about decided to make something of myself. I think I shall j be a sharpshooter either in the army ] or for some air gun company. And that reminds me—I went out to the range the other day and along comes the officer and he sez to me: “Did you miss then?” And I replies: “No sir, I think not—I didn’t shoot.” All of the fellows appreciated the joke and laughed but it kinda seemed to hurt the captain’s feelings a bit. Yes terday I got a notice that I needn't report to the range any more. So I drav/ from that that I am so good 1 don’t need any more practice. Well Tom, keep your head and eyes off the ground and don’t mistake the new moon for a delicious piece of cheese some dark night. Hieing into the welcome arms ox Morpheus. LES. Compare the automobiles, telephones or threshing machines of twenty-five years ago with the highly efficient product of today. Better work and longer life for each machine has resulted in every case from intelligent, consistent development. The development of any machine depends: first, upon the ideals and ability of the designers and builders and, second, upon the data available and the method of its use. This Company is exception ally fortunate in both these respects. Our engineers are admittedly competent and resourceful. They have devised a system for securing accurate, definite information about the operation of Case machines under the infinite variety of conditions met in ex tensive field work. As it comes in, this information is classified, tabu lated and charted every month. It is studied care fully for any indication of desirable improvements in design, material or construction. This is the scientific system of development incorporated in the Case Engineering Code that has carried Case prod ucts forward to leadership in usefulness and econ omy. J. I.
