There is a practice which has been going on here at A. and M. for some time which casts a reflection upon the student body of this school. The matter is purely a case of thoughtlessness on the part of those who engage in it, and with only a few moments time and one thought the thing could be stop ped. It happens every time that the corps goes down to see a team off for a trip. “Prexy” has never said anything about it, so it is up to the student body to discontinue the practice. After this when we come back from the station let’s take about fifteen seconds longer and follow the walk instead of walking across the grass in Dr. Bizzell’s front yard. The grass has no chance whatsoever to grow when it is being constantly walked upon, and for this item alone we should have pride enough in the President’s home to see that we do nothing to mar its ap t. a. On February 1, 2, and 3, the College will be the host to several hundred delegates, and several nationally known speakers, to the older boys’ confer ence, which will be held under the direction of the Y. M. C. A. There were 723 in attendance at Dallas last year and in the past, when the College was fortunate enough to have the conference held here, over 300 boys have attended.. ; Since these boys come from all sections of the state it is well, perhaps, that we have certain facts brought to our minds that we may remember them. We must remember that the impression that these boys, and speakers, take away with them will derermine to a great extent, the very existence of this, our College, for many of these boys are prospective students; also they will tell the people back home, in the various “Centers of the Universe,” and will greatly influence legislation for or against the A. and M. College and the principles for which it stands. We should also remember that some of these boys are neither familiar with colleges and the college way of doing things, nor with the many temp tations offered at the modern college, and that we and our actions will be on trial, so to speak, with these boys as the judges._ It behooves us, therefore, to be very careful that we live the ordinary everyday life, which we normally lead, while these boys are here, as we do live when we have not the honor to be the hosts to such welcome visitors. We shall not attempt to make this article serve the purpose of welcom ing the delegates and speakers to the college, but shall leave that to the col lege community. We merely wish to suggest to you that we should so con duct ourselves that nothing but admiration and respect will be felt by the visitors for the students and college plant in general; and that their visit may be so pleasant that they will wish to return in future years, either as stu dents of as delegates to the conference. TAKE THAT D. Men, we are on the home stretch of that great “Handicap race.” A few men have reached the goal ,some have fallen, and a great many are stagger ing. For these “Staggers,” the “D” examinations are the last great hurdle. It is left to us whether we will summons that last ounce of strength, clear this final high hurdle, and finish with the best, or whether we will “throw up up the sponge.” We may say, “Well, I will take this course over again next year, I have plenty of time.” Men, work will never slacken up in this col lege until that day when we walk and receive that “skin you love to touch.” Our school work is a test for the “survival of the fittest.” We boast of our fighting “Aggie spirit.” This is an excellent opportunity to really “show our stuff.” The fault may not be ours; nevertheless, a big “D” is staring us in the face. Break up that “bull-pen date,” forget, for a while, about that “sweet thing,” barricade the door, consume a little “midnight oil,” and really gain a complete knowledge of the subject. There will be none to encourage and none to praise but we will have the satisfaction of knowing that we “fought to the last ditch.” Morally, a battle hard-fought is a battle won. HOW ABOUT THIS? We cannot afford to let the interest in this proposition of a new gymnas ium died down in the least. Some of the students are really interested in the thing enough to offer to give the remainder o ftheir trust fund to the en terprise. . What do you think about it ? . There will probably be some ex-stu- dent who will match you dollar for dollar. There are lots of the boys who can easily afford to donate a little capital above their trust fund. Let us hear from you in regard to this matter. We will receive any suggestions or if you are inclined we will tell you what to do with your donation. pearance. The M. H. James Drug Co. JAS. W.
