THE BATTALION 3 * * * SAY BO! DIDJA? * ❖ «*. «f* <i* * * * <$► * **► <J« Say Bo! Didja ever tire of Mediocrity, and yearn to ascend To the unscarred peniplps of Fame? Did the lure of the Commonplace pall, and dija hear The clarion call, “Excelsior”? And didja so desire to join The ranks of those who really Matter; the members of the campus Chewing Club? And all forgetful Of the days of C. E. Summer Prac tice, When once you took a chew, and Kicked the transit over, didja Cut off a plug of thick or thin And charge that cavernous mug To full capacity; hoping thereby To gain both fame and elegability? And as the molars rose and fell In regular and rythmic crushing Motion, did the volume of the Specimen increase, and did the Cheeks extend to the elastic Limit And did the pleasure pall And ere you had the time to effect The export of that mighty cargo. Did reason abdicate, and did the Sun, moon and tars look on in Fiendish glee? And did that Gyroscopic bean seek out the Bed, and there with one gigantic And equeous gurgle, seek kind Relief in heavy and unconscious Stupor? And on awaking, didja Realize with deep regret that Another shot had missed its mark, And that you were doomed to Med iocrity? Say Bo! Didja? “Skeeter” Erskine did! For days I’ve waited for a letter from a certain girl. That was all that was needed to make me su premely happy, to raise my drooping spirits to the skies. Just one single letter! Every day I climbed four long flights of stairs to my room be tween classes just to see if it had not come at last. Every mail I hoped. And now there is a fat letter from her in the mail-slot in the door-un opened. You ask me why I mope about, why I don’t rush to the door and seize it?
