ATHLETIC DEPT. ANNOUNCES
BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
The Athletic Department has an
nounced the basketball schedule for
the season of 1923-24, as follows:
Jan. 11-12, T. C. U., home.
Jan. 18-19, Baylor, Waco.
Jan. 21-22, S. M. U., Dallas.
Jan. 25-26, Rice, home.
Feb. 1-2, Texas, Austin.
Feb. 8-9, S. M. U., home.
Feb. 15-16, Rice, Houston.
Feb. 22-23, Baylor, home.
Feb. 25-26, Arkansas, home.
Feb. 29, Mar. 1, O. A. & M., Still
water.
March 3, T. C. U., Ft. Worth.
March 7-8, Texas, home.
This is the most complete schedule
that an Aggie basketball team has
ever undertaken and if the squad can
go through that layout and emerge
with a championship they will indeed
be champions. Every conference team
is on the list, making the schedule
truly representative. The Christians
and the Razorbacks are newcomers as
basketball rivals and the performances
of their teams in games previous to
the matches here will be eagerly
watched. The basketball race this
year will be closer than ever before, if
pre-season dope spells anything, as
both Texas and Baylor will have vet
eran teams.
COMPANY BASKETBALL STARTS
“Tiny” Keen has sent out the call
for company basketball stars to be
gin practice and before long bat
talion rivalry on the courts will be
intense. “Tiny” is director of the com
pany league this year and from pres
ent indications will have good ma
terial to choose his All-Company team
from. The object of the league is to
uncover tanelt for the Varsity squad
and it is for this reason that the sea
son starts so early in the year. There
will be eight teams in the race and
the winning team, figured on a per
centage basis, will receive sweaters.
The men who show up well during the
race will be given a chance when the
regular basketball season opens.
Coaches for the eight teams were
chosen from the squad men of last
year and those who could not coach
their own organization drew for teams.
Damon will coach the 1st Batalion,
Kruegar the 2nd, and Simpson the
3rd. Dealy will be at home among the
troopers, and “Ape” Brient has the
Artillery. Monte Currie has the Sig
nal Corps, Duckett the Aviation, and
Washburn the Casuals. This makes
eight teams in the race and it is
planned to let every team play every
other team twice. That will give a
representative schedule and enough
games will be played to really de
termine the champion.
The value of inter-battalion bas
ketball can hardly be stressed enough.
Some of the most valuable of the
football men are discovered through
the football league and it stands to
reason that there are a number of good
basketball men in the school who are
hiding their light under a bushel.
During the last three years there have
been no basketball men really dis
covered in the company games but
they have served to give experience to
the Freshman stars. This year it is
hoped that new material will be found
for the squad through this medium
and that every man who goes out will
be benefitted by the game.

bacon was zebra meat.

have him. The Longhorns have been
so crippled with injuries for the past
three weeks that the Athlet'c Coun
cil must rave decided that they need
ed m‘ore guardians.

The Aggies came through that
ariel attack that has been threatening
for some time aga : nst the Pirates.
her passes gained 4 more yards
h n did the r runs from scrimmage.

The Southwestern game was well
scouted by the Bears. Coach Bridges
3ame down and brought with him
K rk, tha All-Southwestern center of
two years ago, and Fort one of his
iss stants. Fort was also scouting
for Sewanee. 'there were several
other scouts present but they kept
s re tty well hidden. A special' sec
tion ought to be reserved for scouts
at the Sewanee game so they can
oonsult and make sure they find out
all they want to know.

That pass, Gill to Knickerbocker,
that the Aggies have been using has
oeen successful! 6 times out of 7.
Pinson w 11 be back in the game at
Dallas and that will g've two relia
ble passers to throw them to Knick.
Evans and Wilson are both getting
hot at snatching the oval, too.

The Beaumont Enterprise carried
prctures of 7 of the Aggies. Very
few of the boys got to see them
though for Bull Johnson bought up
all of the available supply as soon as
he heard that his picture was among
them.

The Longhorn coach has shifted
foe -Ward back to the line. He play
ed guard in the Phillips game. Doc,
maybe he can fill that hole at quar
ter; you’ve used him everywhere else.

It sure is great work to work for
an editor that enters into everything
he paper does with all h’s soul. Tom
McCarter made a fine speech the
other night for extra BattaPon sub
scriptions and then went down and
hollered his lungs out giving 15 for
the Bat Staff. Somebody punched
him whfie he was yelling and when
he real'zed what he was doing he
blushed and nearly ruined his celu-
loid collar.

“Did you give this man the third

“Yes. We browbeat and bad
gered him with every question
we could think of.”
“What did he do?”
“He dozed off and merely mur
mured now and then, ‘Yes, my
dear. You’re perfectly right.”
And it is mighty important to
know when what you buy is also
“perfectly right.” It is our cus
tom to find out all there is to
know about anything we have.
That is why you can depend on
what we tell you about any
thing we sell you. If you get
it at this store you can be sure
it is “perfectly right” in price,
in wear, and in service for the
purpose you want it.
