J. J. Hardman, the “rattler” from
the Cavalry was an easy' 1 winner m
the “meal hound” contest. He had
half of a pot plant consumed before
he found out it wasn’t on the menu.
He didn’t have much on “Charlie
Nitch” Forgason because the “smil
ing lad” consumed four pieces of
cake and a glass of salty water with
out taking a breath. Mr. W. L. Stan-
gel was caught in the act of trying
to slip off with some of the College
silver when Coach Bible turned him
in to the Commandant—guess he will
be campussed for the rest of the
term.
“Slim” Knickerbocker ate all the
crackers and paper napkins. The
speeches followed with Toastmaster
Ashburn making the first excuse. Af
ter Coach House, Coach Bible, and
Puny Wilson spoke on various topics
the Mighty Silent Miller arose amid
blood curdling yells and shrill gusts
of applause and delivered a mighty
oration that will never be forgotten
as long as Coach Bible is BALD-

summed up in the following “Texas
is looking forward to the Aggies mak

won’t be fit to live in for the man
that does not return next fall with

COMiANDEKOF
EIGHTH CORPS
AREA COMING
Maj. Gen. Lewis to be at College
Thursday to Inspect Military De
partment and Cadet Corps.
The thunder of the artillery piece
at 12 noon, Feb. 21, will announce the
arrival at College Station of Major
General Lewis, the commanding gen
eral of the Eighth Corps Area. His
visit has been expected for some time
and many plans have been made for
his reception and entertainment. On
his arrival he will be met with an es
cort consisting of a troop of cavalry,
and will be conducted to Colonel
Todd’s residence where a reception will
be held in his honor at nine that eve
ning.
Thursday morning will be taken up
mostly by the presentation of commis
sions to Cadet Officers. General
Lewis will make the presentations
personally.
While he is here the General will
inspect the Military Department of
the College, and will review and per
haps inspect the corps of cadets. The
corps will be required to wear No. 1
uniform at all times while the Gen
eral is here.
It is not known exactly how long
the visit will last but when the Col
lege bids farewell to its distinguished
visitor it will be with impressive cere
monies. The band and a troop of cav
alry wil escort him to the train
through two long lines of cadets,
drawn up in formation on either side
of the driveway leading to the station.
This is the first visit the General
has made the College in his present
capacity, but we hope that he will en
joy his stay to such an extent that it
will not be his last one.
Also if we were planning to be
come a marimba player we first con
tract delirium tremens or palsey or
shimmitis.
