TRIPS MADE TO COLLEGE DAILY McCulloch-Gordon Company PHONE 164 W. T. (Tanlac) Strange, after view ing the sights of the Dallas Fair, is in the hospital suffering from appen dicitis. A speedy recovery, “Tanlac.” * * * Following are some extracts from a letter written by H. M. Bohn, C. E. ’20, to one of his friends on the Cam pus: F. I. de C. A., “Pension Varfela,” San Salvador, Central America. Dear Friend: No doubt you are wondering where in the world this letter is coming from. It is a h—1 of a place, but I am here so that ought to improve it a little bit. I’ve been here now three months, and have gotten a lot of prac tice building railroads. This country is all mountains and all that I can do when I am riding over the line is to hang on to my mule when he goes up and down the steep inclines. Thanks to Bull Muller’s Cavalry I was pretty well accustomed to riding bronchos before I got here. Well, how is everything up at old A. and M.? What sort of a bunch of Fish are there now, and how are all the football games coming out? Down in this hole I hardly ever hear anything about things there, unless I hear it from the University side, and you know in what light they put it. Central America is just one “darn” hole that God forgot when he made this earth. Anyway, he made a mis take. I never saw such a bunch of ignorant people in my life. We have bought a Victrola here, and at night you would think that our office ,was a regular Keydets room at A. and M. Every once in a while we step ai’hund in Soyapango Society. It sure is [lots of fun to shove these brown-skinjned babies around on a floor that soine- what resembles the Stock Judgpri^g Pavilion floor. In our camp there two Germans, one the resident neer and the other in charge <f>f all masonry work, one ex-gob from/New Jersey, and last but not least Hondurean general, once candiddRe for president of. that country,“nov*r7trr paymaster. With all this bu have quite a time every now an^then when we step out. y Well, old top, when you wriue me tell me how everything is getting along. I sure want to hear the fclpt- ball results, and as I have my A. and M. football schedule right in fronfJ of me, I sure will be holding my left (ear) on these days. A. and M. ^iure got a hard schedule, and if she ipes through the season undefeated sh|e is going some. ❖ * * “Wolf” Doney, ’17, was on the Cam pus for a short visit Thursday. ❖ 5}: :k “Sid” Miley, ’19, now interested in oil, was a popular visitor at A. and M. this week. He brought good reports of Jim Porter, ’19, Dudley Baker, ’18, and Bill Taylor, ’19. people with a social that will long be remembered by those who attended. There were about four hundred stu dents and about a hundred Campus and Bryan people present. The first half hour there wasn’t any formal plans of entertainment. The orchestra played many selections the first hour. Mrs. W. W. Kraft sang a solo. The real fun began when Mr. Brackett opened the entertainment with an “old fashioned stand up.” A prize was given to the person who re membered the largest number of names in the “stand up.” After the “stand up” the young ladies’ “ribbon race” began. The Misses Edge, Short, Lipscomb, Nash, Woods, Fry, Stout, Buchanan, V. Short, Pletzer, Fraps, Harris, Bizzell, Lovel, and Mc- Knight entered the “ribbon race” as representatives of each of the classes in the Bible School. Miss Alma Mc- Knight won the first prize. Refreshments of brick ice cream and home made cake were served af ter the “ribbon race”. On account of the lateness of the hour the program for the evening’s entertainment had just started good when the time came to leave. The other stunts that were not pulled off will be held over for another social that will be given at a later date. The committee on ar rangements wishes to thank the Cam pus ladies for their generous response of their request to furnish home made cakes. “SOONER CLUB” ORGANIZES. What has previously been known as the Oklahoma Club met and elected officers for the ensuing year in the Airdome, Tuesday noon. The name was changed from its original to that of the “Sooner Club” for more than one reason. First: because the Okla homans are known over the United States as “Sooners”; and secondly: because the members of the club at this institution had “soonei”’’ be at Texas A. and M. than any other insti tution of its kind. The club has a membership of fif teen students and several honorary members from the teaching staff. Regular meeting dates will be set. The following officers were elected: President, E. C. Ward, Tishomingo, Okla.; Vice-President, H. F. Hayes, Chickasha, Okla.; Secretary-Treas urer, W. R. McLaury, Snyder, Okla. JUNIORS The follov elites on jeers SATURDAY cted as E. F. PARKS & CO. At this meeting the new members were taken in and the officers for the current term were elected. The Wanderer’s Club is the only organization of its kind on the Campus in which the general welfare of the students of the Texas A. and M. who reside out of the state of Texas is provided for in so far as the ability of the student officers will permit. Plans for the welfare of the club were numerously suggested and the most desirable ones adopted by the club. A regular meeting place is to be found in the near future by the officers in charge and regular times for the meeting to take place will be set. The object of the club is to make the students from foreign countries and distant states in the union to feel as much at home here as possible. The club membership consists of men from the states of Georgia, Okla homa, Mississippi, Ohio, Iowa, Louis iana, Arizona, Arkansas, and from the foreign countries of Mexico, Ireland, Egypt, Peru, and Mesopotamia. A new feature will be the selection of honorary members from Campus and faculty people of other states. The following officers were elected: President, F. L. Bertschler, Kosciusko, Miss.; Vice-President, C. R. Warndof, Savannah, Ga.; Secretary-Treasurer, E. C. Ward, Tishomingo, Okla.; Sergeant-at-Arms, H. Dougherty, Blackwell, Okla.
