    THE BATTALION
THE SOPHOMORE.
i
The sophomore is a specie of the
human family that thrives in all col
leges. He looks very much like man
and is socalled by a large percent of
the scientist. All men that have
made the origin of sophomore a deep
study, know that he is of evolution
ary origin. It is a proven fact that
he was at one time a “fish”. Ac
cording to a theory advanced by the
freshmen class—and this is a very
enlightened class of people, the soph
omore is a specie of the ’’brute” fam
ily, as is shown by his brutality. But
this brutality is caused more by a
common custom than from heridity.
To study this question more thor
oughly we will take for example the
sophomore class at A. and M. College.
In this class we have the various
types of mankind. We have the
elongated type or the guys with the
long lunch hooks. They have a large
cavity under their belts which is rare
ly ever filled. Their prey is “fish”
cush. His craving for sweets have
caused freshmen to go cushless for
several meals at a time. Next we
have the middle class. As has been
proven by our eminent professors we
should beware of the “middleman.”
Then we have the abbriviated type.
The type is developed to perfection
at A. and M. College. Here can be
found a whole “covey” that are so
short they can easily walk under a
bed with a high hat on.
But taking the class as a whole you
can usually find them in the spring,
congregated in small bunches, on
highways, dark comers and various
other places jtrojj^^^^Wes holding

Although the sophomore is called
“brute” by the freshman and various
other names by different authorities,
(we admit that he is a sackholder),
we, the Junior Class, wish to publish
to the world that the type at A. and
M. are MEN.

The Battalion has just completed
arrangements for the appearance at
College Station of the 1920 Choral
Club of Baylor College for Women
at Belton. In the past this has prov
en one of the most popular enter
tainments of the college, year and re
ports from all who have seen and
heax-d the club this season state that
this appearance will surpass all
others.
The Baylor Club is noted for its
excellent singing and years ago won
the highest favor at A. and M. from
their rendition of such a large num
ber of popular songs. They have the
music and songs that appeal to the
A. and M. audience. Moreover, the
manager, Mr. T. E. Sanderford of
Belton, has written that the Choral
Club for this season has the prettiest
girls ever (which is saying a great
deal) and that they will offer more
of the popular songs than ever be
fore.
The young ladies have emphatical
ly expressed their anxiety to appear
here and are looking forward with
the greatest expectation to a memor
able evening. No doubt, the cadets
and students will fill Guion Hall to
its capacity on this date, and many
campus and Bryan residents have
expressed their pleasure on learning
of the engagement.
The Club is making an extended
tour of East and South Texas and
such is the popularity of these en-
tertainers that^A. and M. is very fo
tunate indeed to have secured them
through the efforts of the Battalion
for an appearance. Coming from
Corsicana, the Club spends one eve
ning with us and proceeds to Hous
ton for the next entertainment.
The entertainment will begin
promptly at eight o’clock, Wednes
day evening, April 14th, at Guion
Hall. The Battalion wishes to urge
