About The Battalion. (College Station, Tex.) 1893-current | View Entire Issue (Nov. 6, 1919)
THE BATTALION giving nights, not to mention the JJunior banquet, they will be com petent guides for cross country tourists. I tery B is immediately thought of. So, Infantry, watch out for Waco. It is rumored that Co. G is to be appointed chief of the Fire depart ment. The business appearance made at fire drill attracted no little atten tion and at the same time showed the pep and whole-heartedness of the company in that it went so far as to procure special uniform just for drill. Sergeant Japour and Corporals Hamilton and Buscher of Co. G have returned from Greenville where they played with the scrubbs against Bur leson College. G Company has nine men out for football and will probably make some company put its best foot forward for company honors. At a G Company meeting on the fourth floor of Goodwin Hall Sun day night, plans were discussed in regard to the special edition of the Battalion to be edited by this com pany. Everything is being done to make it the best ever put out and under the direction of some very capable men with a one-hundred per cent backing it has a splendid oppor tunity to show some real class. * * * Co. G will be at Waco one-hundred per cent strong and help pull the Bear’s tail off short. * * * Co. G was honored by the presence of Miss Love of the Campus, who dined with us at the Cafe de Sbisa Monday evening. The feature of the dinner was a prune race which was won by “Fish” Baxer whose speed was such that he had to slow down to cool his cuttlery sufficiently to be accurate. Say, did you see “Fish” Lt. Willis hunting for “his lads” on Hallowe’en night? High and low he searchea but his results were futile. But thal brings up another question, where were his “Sophomore lads.” Battery B, yes that’s our name. From Reveille we’re in the game. ’Till taps puts out the lights at night, From Battery B are the boys who fight. In all our line there’s not a fool, We send our “Fish” to Sunday School,, If the best at A. and M. you’d see, Just take a look at Battery B. Battery B feels very highly hon ored by having a regimental color corporal in its midst. When drill grades were dropped several weeks ago an ArCflery “Fish” copped the honor of guarding the flag. The duty was very neatly attended to and the Freshman was accordingly given a seat on the regimental staff table. What other company has such a dis tinguished man in its midst, and can boast of a regimental color corporal? The Signal Corps boasts of being con querors, why do they not produce such a man? Watch Battery B at Waco. CONCERNING CONDUCT AT THE GAME. W^atch Battery B at W^aco Monday, Nov. 3, some industrious members of the Signal Corps painted their motto o na pair of their three cornered trousers and hung it up on our building. They can come and get the trousers now, as we haven’t any men young enough in our organization to wear them. The cry will be “Waco” on Nov. 8. The Artillery is not supposed to be as efficient at Infantry drill, as the Infantry, but nevertheless, Battery B won the first line at the first re view. We want to give the Infantry fair warning, that we are going to make them look like boy scouts when we march through Waco. The Col lege has already learned that when ever the word efficient is used, Bat- I noticed at the last football game that some members of the corps ap plauded when one of our opponents was carried off the field injuried. This may have been done in a spirit of appreciation for his gameness, at least I hope so, but at a football game the customary way of showing appreciation for an injured player is to give him a yell. The practice of applauding at such times might easily give an outsider the idea that the corps was like some other student bodies in that they were pleased to see one of the op posing team carried off of the field injuried. I know that such was not the spirit of this applause, but if occurred to me the first time that it was very likely to leave a bad impression on visitors. Our activities get very little men tion in any of the newspapers of the State an 1 wc certainly should take care that this little bit should be helpful and not injurious t'o our rep utation. —A Subscriber. i !
