    BELGIUM GRATEFUL TO AMERICA
Dr. G. S. Fraps has received the
following letter from Holland:
Dear Sir—Mr. Paul DeVuyst, from
Brussels, unable to write you because
in Belgium post service with foreign
countries is suppressed, begs me to
remember himself to you and inform
you how grateful the Belgians are to
the American people for their gener
ous gifts to our poor and suffering
people. As it is impossible now for
our compatriots to write to their
American friends, we are afraid that
the American donors do not receive
enough manifestations of the thank
fulness of the Belgians.
Please tell your friends the grateful
feetings of the Belgians. The dis
tress of the Belgians is so great that
without the sympathetic American
generosity half the population would
have died of starvation.
Please answer to your most thank
fully,
MARIE JOSEPHS VUYLSTEKE

A Freshman (fish) was wrecked on
an African coast
yVhere a cannibal king held sway;
And they served that Freshman on
slices of toast
On the eve of the very next day.
But the vengeance of heaven swiftly
followed the act,
For ere the next moon was seen.
By cholera morbus the tribe was at
tacked.
For that Freshie was terribly
green. —F. J. H., T7.
Guest (calling up clerk)—There
are a couple of mice fighting up here.
Clerk (languidly) — What room
have you?
Upon being told he inquired:
“What are you paying for it?”
“Two dollars.”
“Well, what do you expect to get
for two dollars—a bull fight?”
