The students who attended the Dal las Fair with Prof. Gee report a very instructive and pleasant trip. The main object of the trip was to note the principal crops, rainfall and soil of each county. The first day was given over to the study of the dif ferent county exhibits of crops and by-products, and the second day to looking over the farm implements and powers. The crop exhibits were all good, not withstanding the hard season, one farm alone having over 1000 products displayed. Sudan grass played a most important part in almost all the erhibits and feterita also was promi nent. The machinery exhibits were main ly farm implements, threshers, trac tors, etc. The Little Bull, a small, but efficient, tractor, was prominent and promises a solution of the problem confronting farmers having small farms. All the implement men were inter ested in the A. & M. students and carefully explained their lines. A number of new inventions in the im plement line were seen. Every year the Fair Association at Dallas offers a number of medals to A. & M. students who enter the con tests in dairy work. These contests are open only to A. & M. cadets, tho any agricultural student is eligible to enter. The first contest consisted of the determination of the precentage of salt n butter. A. R. Campbell won first prize and P. B. Metcalfe second. In the adulteration test A. W. Kin- nard won first and W. L. Stangel sec ond prize. The prizes consisted of gold and silver medals for first and second places, respectively. Cadets T. N. Lee, J. B. Price and P. R. Perkins assisted J. L. Thomas, U. S. dairy expert, in the conduction of the contest for, the economical pro duction of butter. There were some thirty-five cows entered in the contest. An accurate record of all the feed con sumed, the amount of milk produced and the percent of butter fat in same, etc., was kept for each cow. The test ran for twelve days. The cadets were paid or their services by the Fair Association. £ 3* <« S O £ £ O S $ $ $ £ S O $ O SO O $ $ $ <u> $ $ £ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ x> Goods With a Reputation EDWIN CLAPP SHOES BOSTONIAN SHOES ECLIPSE SHIRTS , m jiH -y.
