The first regular meeting of the Civil Engineering Society was held in Professor Potts’ section room last Friday night. The meeting was called to order by J. N. Olson, who had been directed by the previous president to call the meeting. Mr. Olson discussed the needs of a C. E. society here and spoke about some of the benefits the members of the society would derive from it. The society then went into the elec tion of officers. Officers were elected as follows: J. N. Olson, president; W. T. Donoho, vice president; E. B. Tinker, secretary; W. S. Broome, treasurer; J. S. Rollins, president of program committee; J. H. Darby, ser- geant-at-arms. T. R. Spence was elected as chair man of a committee to frame up a constitution for the society. Professor Richey made the society a very interesting talk on an abut ment problem that he was required to solve this summer. His talk was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone pres ent, and it is hoped that Mr. Richey will give us many more talks before the session is over. It was decided to meet every other Friday night in the C. E. Building. All senior and junior C. E.’s are eligi ble for membership. It is the plan of the society to have prominent engineers to come here from time to time and lecture to the society. These men are now doing the work that we will be up against in a few years. They will tell the society of practical problems that they are meeting day and their solu tion, and this will not only make very interesting lectures, but should be a great help to the C. E.’s. A. B. P. O. R. N.’S HOLD MEETING. Last Friday the A. B. P. O. R. N.’s held their first meeting for the year, the occasion being the election of a new member to take the place of Lefty Louie, who pursued by fate and the relentless hand of the cruel Juno, was forced to depart for lands un known. Wheelbarrow Mac was sug gested, but owing to the fact that he had been under the refining influences of civilization for some time, it was feared that he would be unable to withstand all the trials and tribula tions incident to a career in the illus trious order. However, as soon as it was learned that a ship belonging to the candidate had come in, and as a consequence he was flushed with the sluicy lucy, he was unanimously elected, all the members voting with the exception of Bald Jack Rose, who being engaged in a life and death struggle with the bathtub was unable to be present. Immediately after Mac was informed of the result, he was struck in the back of the neck with the broadside of some Irish confetti and dubbed Lefty Louie, Jr. He was then forced to traverse the burning sands over to Leigh’s, where the ‘first degree was administered to him in the shape of mysterious dragging to light of well known ten-centers. The club’s complement of six members is full once more, and there is every reason to believe that the future of the organization is assured; for it goes without saying that many of the members are already destined to serve out various little terms for life in some of the largest and most re nowned eleemosynary institutions in the United States. A-B TEAM DISBANDS. Forced by Numerous Injuries to Play ers to Withdraw from League. The A-B team which started out with such brilliant prospects and such high hope of a successful sea son has been forced to withdraw from the league. In the first game of the season played with C-D eight of the best men were injured so severely that they will have to remain out of the game for the remainder of the season. With a crippled team A-B played E-F on November 9 and w r ere defeat ed by a score of 19 to 0. The mem bers of the A-B team realized then that pursuit of the championship was hopeless and therefore disbanded. The three contenders for the cham pionship at present seem to be E-F, C-D, and L-M. Each of these teams has a standing of 1000. Next Satur day E-F plays C-O and it seems likely that an interesting game will be played. The standing of the teams follows: Plyd. Won Lost Pet E-F 1 1 0 1000 C-D 1 1 .0 1000 L-M 1 1 0 1000 I-K 2 1 1 .500 G-H 1 0 1 .000 A-B 2 0 2 .000 There will be no more meetings of the Scientific Agricultural Associa tion until the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, at which time a rally will be held led by Professor Kyle. This decision was reached because of the many company and college football games, and because of the Thanksgiving celebration.
