WHAT CAUSED THAT WAR IN GERMANY? In a building down in Texas, At that College Station place, In the basement of old Milner Abides the German race. Now Kline is from New Braunfels And from New’ Braunfels cometh Goers, And our Reinart’s with a Jew-Dutch heart That same place adores. As this old world turns over And time on by us goes We constantly are seeing things That the Bull never knows. So it was when Dutchman Kline In a spirit all of fun With the w’it of a few insulted our Jew And a Jew-Dutch war begun. — r*. Now Rein-harts studies history Of Rome and all her men. How Brutus and old Caesar Died just because of sin. So brave as any Sparticus Made of muscle and of brawn With fire in his eye and his hands raised high He declared the w-ar.w’as on. Now Kline got in readiness To do an easy trick. But found he was in trouble When he stopped a Jew-Dutch lick. So now they swung like warmers,' Their lust for blood unheeded Till Reinarts kissed a German fist And furnished what they needed. A little blood on Reinarts’ lip, A little on Kline’s hand, Stopped the wmr like magic And a sue for peace began. Now the spectators were startled To see the v’arriors’ grins, For a stein of beer that was sitting near Had coaxed them to be friends. Somewhere in the land of •wooden shoes The people laugh and shout Somewhere there’s a hole in a keg of beer And the beer is trickling out. Ach! Himmel, how they celebrate As they see each old day flee And an old Dutch host drinks an Dutch toast To Reinarts, Kline and me. —H. T. Would this REALLY help him with hia atudies? old Buffaloes Won In Slow Contest Houston Took Listless Season Opener from Untried Farmers on Kyle Field. Farmers, for they poled the first pitched ball across second for a single, | stole second, took third on an error | and came home on a slow infield hit. The grandstand went wild when the ! umpire called him safe. The Buffaloes I failed to put a man. on the bases in their half of the first inning, but came ! back strong in the second and pushed | three men around, which gave them | the lead that they kept throughout the I game. Moran was not able to practice his bunch the past week on account of the examinations. This explains the many errors of the Farmers and their in ability to get their eyes on the ball. In several cases they watched the third strike by instead of taking their healthies at the Buffaloes’ offerings. A. & M.’s pitchers showed up fine (for the opening game of the season. | Higginbotham opened the game for the home team and held the visitors hit less for the first two innings, and with any kind of support from his team- I mates would have shut out the aspir- ! ants for the flag of the Texas Deague'. | He has got the stuff and is able to de- : liver it like an old-timer.. Skeeler and Crockett also got a try at the leaguers | and did excellent work. Morrison, the heady little catcher, is the find of the season. He is able to get the best out j of the pitchers and his peg to second is perfect. He threw’ one of the fleet- j footed Buffaloes out at second by a good tw’enty feet. The day promised fair, but about the third inning a low’, damp wind blew up from the south which made it very uncomfortable for the occupants of the grandstand as well as the players. The game was fea tured by costly errors, wild base run ning and failure to hit in pinches. The only real feature play of the game w r as the one-handed catch of a high foul far off third base by Bruton.
