If I had lived in the gutter, you say Ere the dark w'as dawn, ere the dawn was day. Ere the sun arose on my infant eyes In an underworld of sad surprise, I would be as you, coarse, bitter, old. Cursed from birth by the lust of gold; I would be as you, foul and defiled, A menace to man and woman and child. And, if you had had my chance you claim, The sunnier skies and the nobler name, The childhood guarded and guided sure By a father sane and a mother pure, You would be as I am, strong and young, Where deeds are wrought and songs are sung; You would be as healthy, and as fresh, In your human heart and your hum an flesh. And you may be right. Perchance the beast, That roars in you, in me at least. Has growled, and growling shows that we Are fashioned one humanity. Perchance my passions unexpressed. In you are but made manifest; Perchance in you I ought to see. The Hell from which life rescued me. If this be true, if desperate chance Of vast, unequal circumstance Has given me much and scanted you, My brother, this is also true: Out of my noblest, must give Your lost abundance while I live, Third Battalion Again Vivtorious. The fourth game of the Battalion football series was played Wednesday afternoon. It was one of the best of the Battalion games. On the first quarter Bloclc kicked off for the third battalion. Wathen received the ball and returned ten yards. Both side played back and forth across field without scoring until end of quarter. In second quarter Wathen made a touch down for second battalion. Clark failed to kick goal. Score five to nothing in favor of second battalion. In third quarter neither side scored. The fourth and last quarter was the most exciting. Clark on- five-yard line attempted to punt for second battalion, but fumbled. Eppler recovered ball and attempted to run for touchdown. He fumbled when tackled behind his goal line. Harrison, for third battalion recovered ball and made touchdown. Block kicked a very difficult goal. This made the score 6 to 5 in favor of third battalion. A few minutes remained. Third battalion kicked out- of-bounds. Second carried ball to twenty-five yard line for scrimmage. Whistle blew r and time was up. Score 6 to 5, in favor of third battalion. Collins and Clark played their usual swift game in line for second battalion. Wathen at quarter and Ball at half playeid good game for second. Block at full played an excellent game for third. Harrison at center and Lockey at half played their usual good game for third. Sherer was good on punts for third. LINE UP.
