C STOCK JUDGING CONTEST AT SAN ANTONIO. 1 A prominent feature of ithe San Antonio fair was the stock! judging contest. Prizes were ofifjered by the fair association for thd young men whose judging correfeponded most closely to that of the regular judges in the cattle, shefep and swine classes. I There were eleven contestants, ten of whom were from the jA. and M. college, having had the regular instruction in stock judging at that institution. On Monday morning when the Shorthorn bull calves were blrought into the ring the work was! com menced. Contestants were \ given blank forms on which to record the way in which, in their estwriration, premiums were awarded/ They were also required to /State their reasons for their decision. After they had finished the regular judge placed the cattle and the report of each competitor was compared with the decision of the judge. One hundred points were allowed for each class; if the animals were placed properly sixty points were allowed, and if reasons were con sidered correct and sufficient, a maximum of forty points were given. The procedure was similar in the work on sheep and swine. The standings of those who partici pated are shown in table. First prize of $50 awarded to II. E. Hanna, Denison, Texas. Second prize of $.25 awarded to M. S. Church, McKinney, Texas. Third prize of $15 awarded to V. H. Stubbs, Wortham, Texas. Fourth prize of $10 awarded to T. C. MEETING OF FRESHMEN IN CHAPEL. A meeting of the Freshman class was held in the chapel Thursday night. Capt. Sargent addressed them on matters pertaining to sentinel walking and on military duties in general. He gave them some very decided opinions on the subject of walking sentinel, telling them that no person was to be re spected more than this soldier on his post. In regard to visiting, he said, in meaning, “You may visit, you are not committing any breach of honor when you do so, but you must run the risk. It is not visit ing that will go against you, it is getting caught out of your room/’ After Captain Sargent’s talk the Freshmen held a meeting and or ganized for this year. Officers were elected, and the class now stands very well organized. W. A. WATKINS INSURANCE BRYAN, TEXAS. X sell Life, Accident and health Insurance and Accident Tickets. Office: Howell Building.
