THE BATTALION. 19 There is President Winkler, A good-hearted lad. Stand by him, boys; He’s the best President you’ve had. I quite forgot Fitzgerald, A staff member, too. We mustn’t leave him out. Whatever we do. His stomach is generally loaded With mess hall steak. But look out for the cush, boys— He will get all he can take. Now, there is Scherer, Another sport, indeed. Look out, ladies. Or he’ll be in the lead. M is for Melgaard, A good-hearted jay; But he’s letting a fair lassie Lead him astray. And M is for Moseley, The modest boy— The ’iride of our school; And he’s mama’s joy. And now for the band, With music they play, And lead us to Mess Hall Once every day. IC is for Clement, A good-hearted jay, AVho sent us to town On one sad day. We went to town, For confidence in him we had, And saw a clown Display to us his magic fad. K is for Kahn, The big-mouthed Jew. He can play marbles. And shoot craps, too. B is for Bittle, Who is quite small— A jolly, good fellow. And liked by us all. Now, there is Biering, With an appetite easy to meet And can satisfy it fully With a cup of tea. But when the proprietor Charges him a half He is real sorry He didn’t take a full repast. T is for Thrower, Who’s liked by us all. If he has nothing else. He has plenty of gall. And now as to the privates— Them we will fix! For their number Just equals six. There’s Carter and Short. Their ranks they resigned. And as privates Are both doing fine. There is Lewis and Rodgers, Who are specials, you know; But look out, boys, • They’ve got a good show. Graduate they will— You can’t keep them down; And they won’t be lowest When diplomas are passed ’round. Privates Lewis and Short, And Carter and Rogers, Reporting they dodge, For they are natural born dodgers. And little Cary Hutson, Of whom you’ve all heard— He’s a fox in his studies. And has Prof. Nagle’s bird. But take my advice And don’t get gay; But always remember There are others on the way. There is Fatty Monroe, Of last year’s class. The C. E.’s are proud of him. For they are sure he’ll pass. Now, gentlemen, the first class I have them all on hand, With Coulter and Japhet To complete our little band. Now, fellow-classmates, I hope you’re not mad. For if you are !< ' i It is very sad.
