friends with special cars decorated in liag-s and streamers
and the enthusiasm and interest displayed was very great.
The address of welcome was delivered by Col. L. L. Fos
ter, president of the college, whose cordial greeting and
well timed address not only served to make the visitors
feel at home, but won a place in their hearts for the
speaker.
Music by the College band interluded the numbers on
the program which is given below with names and sub
jects of the speakers:
“Battle of Quebec,” Mr. McLeod, Austin College,
Sherman; “The Supreme Happiness,” Glenn Flinn,
Southwestern University, Georgetown; “William of Oran-
age,” Mr. W. B. Beard, Trinity College, Tehuacana;
“Alexander Hamilton,” Mr. G. W. Steere, Ft. Worth Uni
versity; “Reign of Peace,” E. P. Aldredge, Baylor Col
lege, Waco; “Immortality,” Mr. J. L. Spiller, Agricul
tural and Mechanical College.
The decision was awarded to E. P. Aldredge of Bay
lor, with Glenn Flinn of the Southwestern University
second.
The judges were as follows: On delivery, Dr. O. H.
Cooper of Carthage, Dr. W. H. Bruce of Athens, Judge A.
W. Terrell of Austin. On manuscript, Hons. J. S. Ken
dall and J. M. Carlisle of Austin, President Pritchett of
the Sam Houston Normal Institute.
