22 THE BATTALION. mittee efficiency and adequacy of methods were unstinting!}' praised, and lack of equipment wherever observed, was noted, with a view to its remedy if possible through legislative action. The College has ardent friends at the State Capitol, which is another way of saying that it stands higher every year in the estimation of the citizenship of the state. At 8p. m. a concert was given at Assembly Hall by the College Band and Orchestra. We campus people are proud of our College Band under the patient, careful training of Mr. G. W. Gross, musical talent has been probed for, found, and developed, such as is seldom found in an American Col lege. Suffice it to say, that any impression made upon our Legislative visitors during their day’s perambulations was clinched fast and forever by the night’s entertainment. They were pleased, and it is not derogatory of their dignity or taste to say so. All expressed themselves as highly delighted with the visit, as satisfied with the working of the Institution, and as impressed with the fact, that the state has no foster- child more worthy of her support. There is little doubt that we shall hear from these gentlemen again, when they return to the Capitol. Our twin sisters ot the Artillery again boomed out a salute on Tuesday the 16th. This time three distinguished mem bers of the upper house, Senators Wayland, Atlee, and Ter rell came to turn their search-light on the working's and wants ol the A. & M. College. These gentlemen left the same eve ning with President Ross, on special summon to Austin. The College officials, cadets, and residents of the campus are always glad to entertain visitors who come desirous of learning the aims, operations, and progress of this Institu tion. And, indeed, we have no fear of adverse criticism, if we are given due credit for what has been accomplished with the limited equipment at our disposal. A.LTJMNT MEISTT. Prof, A. L.
