Scholarship
Announced By
Dalhart Club
The Dalhart Hometown Club has
announced that a scholarship of
approximately $300 will be given
to a boy in Dalian County who
expresses a desire to come t o
A&)M.
The scholarship will be award
ed by a scholarship committee
composed of one senior, two jun
iors and two other members of the
club.
The committee will make the
decision after reviewing recom
mendations made by Dean Scyles,
Superintendent of Schools, for
Dalian County. The final decision
will be based on the individual’s
academic, extra-curricular record
in high school and his desire to
come to A&M.
The club has raised the money
for his scholarship through sever
al projects undertaken during the
school year and during the sum
mer. One of the most successful
projects this last summer was the
sponsoring o f the concession
stands and providing of entertain
ment for the XIT Rodeo which is
held each July in Dalhart.
The club hopes that this can be
the start of a perpetual fund to
help Aggies from Dalian Courity
in the years to come.
Church of Christ
Holding Meeting
H. A. Dobbs, minister of the
Memorial St. Church of Christ in
Houston, will speak tonight on
“Truth”, at the annual spring
meeting at the A&M Church of
Christ.
The meeting will continue
through Friday *tith nightly ser
vices beginning at 7:15 at the
church.
Ad Conference
To Be Held Here
An Industrial Advertising Con
ference will be held at A&M in the
latter part of April or early May
to promote further intei'est in in
dustrial advertising.
The conference will be open to
all journalism majors, business ad
ministration majors and anyone
else interested in industrial adver
tising.
The conference will be sponsored
by the Dallas Industrial Advertis
ing Assn.
Gordon Jones, district manager
of the Southwest Division of Mc
Graw-Hill Publishing Co. will be
in charge of the conference.
Further plans will be announced
by John DiBattista, president of the
A&M Advertising Club.

Nine to Attend ‘Y’ Council Meet
Nine YMCA members will attend
the Area YMCA Council Meeting
in Ardmore, Okla., this weekend.
On the return ti'ip from Ardmore
the group will attend a retreat at
the C. E. Hall Lakehouse near
Huntsville to discuss a recreation
program for the summer’s YMCA
camps held e.ach year preceeding
New Student Week.
Last year the camps were held
at Bastrop and Fort Parker state
parks.

The State Assn, of Young Farm

to Renner, Texas, March 30, J. R.
Jackson, organizational advisor to
the group, announced today.
This trip is being held in con
junction with the instruction being
given to high school graduates en
gaged in farming in this area.
The group will visit places of ag
ricultural interest in the Renner
area.

GIELGUD TO TOUR U. S.
NEW YORK CP)—Sir John
Gielgud, British star absent from
these shores eight years, is plan
ning a cross-country fall tour in
his Shakespearean anthology, “The
Ages of Man.”
Sir John, who did the one-man
show at European festivals last
year, starts his stint at the Strat
ford, Ont., theater on Sept. 20,
later visits U. S. cities.

English explorations on the coast
of Alaska in 1776.

Study Methods
Of Insurance
Six representatives of the Japa
nese insurance system, “Mutual
Relief”, visited the campus yester
day to study methods of insuring
agricultural products.
They will study premium col- 1
lection methods, information meth- !
ods, public relation and insurance i
sales work for wheat and cotton
while they are here.
After finishing here, they went
to Lafayette, La., and then on a
tour through Washington, D. C.,
South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Il
linois, and Colorado.
The representatives will i-eport
the results of their studies to the
Japanese Ministry of Agriculture.
Information about U. S. agricul
ture will be distributed in Japan
in magazines and pamphlets to the
5-million farmers insured by “Mut
ual Relief” each year.
The representatives were Nihei
Fujimoto, Ichiji Shimoyama, Ha-
ruki Shiraishi, Kunyi Tanaka, Hi
roshi Kuwahata and Kohochi Ya-
shima.

Program Scheduled

colleges in the preparation of
teachers through student teaching
will begin at 8 a. m. Saturday, in
the Memorial Student Center.
The main address will be deliv
ered by Dr. Milo Kearney of Austin
who is director of teacher educa
tion and certification.
The red-throated loon has a red
band of feathers around its throat
in the Arctic. The red band dis
appears when the birds fly to Flori
da in the winter.
