Guest List
Rear Admiral John M. Will
will join the guests here next
weekend for the annual Mili
tary day activities.
Will is director of personnel
policy, office of the assistant sec
retary of defense for manpower
and personnel, with headquarters
in the Pentagon, Washing-ton, D.C.
He and Gen. Nathan F. Twining,
air force chief of staff, will head
the list of top-ranking military
men and civilians who will be
here March 25 and 26.
The list includes Congressman
Olin E. Teague of College Station,
Brig. Gen. Robert Ives, assistant
division commander of the 36th
division, Texas national guard;
and Bing-. Gen. J. Earl Rudder,
commander of the 90th division,
army reserve.
Highpoint of the weekend will
be a review of the 3,500-man ca
det corps at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Other activities will be a luncheon
with the cadet officers, the presi
dent’s reception, and the Military
ball and combat ball.
About 30 guests will be here for
the two days.
Gen. Nathan F. Twining, air force chief
of staff, who will be here for the weekend’s
military day activities, saw his first airplane
when he was 11 years old.
The wire-and-paper flying machine was
built by his uncle in 1908—only five years
after the Wright brothers made their first
successful powered flight.
In spite of this beginning, eight years
later, when he was 19, Twining was a long
way from being the air force’s highest-rank
ing man. He was slogging along as an in
fantry corporal in the Mexican
border war.
But in 1918, during World
War I, he graduated from the
West Point, and in 1923 he
transferred to the air force and
received his wings.
Twining went overseas in 1942
and chief of staff of the allied for
ces in the South Pacific, and the
following January became com
mander of the 13th air force' in
that area.

only a burned out bulb, ac-
