offers from 23 schools, including
Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ar

he has been assured that there is a

Family Favorites
(Editor’s note: Spring and the spring showers are finally
here, and with the spring the lady of the household usually notices
that her men folks are slow in everything but their eating habits.
They call for every tj’pe of edible tid-bits from toasted hot-dogs
to me fanciest six-course meal and always somewhere in-between
they ask for home-made pie. These pie recipes were given to me
by several ladies from Fort Worth.)
By Mrs. F. Moreland
To begin a pie, most people start with the crust and my favorite
is the crispy vanilla wafer crust.
VANILLA WAFER CRUST
1 cup crushed vanilla wafers 2-3 tablespoons butter
Crush wafers between two pieces of waxed paper with a rolling
pin and place in bowl with melted butter. Mix wafers and butter to
gether and press into the bottom of the pie pan to about a quarter inch
thick. Place in ice box until ready to use. /
This is the filling I usually use in the wafer crust although others
may be used.
FROZEN LEMON PIE
3 eggs separated Vs pint whipping ci’eam
1 can Eagle Bland milk 1/3 cup of sugar
3 lemons (juice and pulp)
Whip cream and put in refrigerator. Beat egg whites until stiff,
add sugar and put in refrigerator also. Beat egg yolks, add milk and
heat the mixture (not boiling). Add lemon juice and beat until thick.
Add whipped cream, mix and pour over the vanilla wafer cx-ust. Spx-ead
beaten egg whites and sugar over filling and put under a broiler flame
for one or two minutes to brown. Cool, cover with waxed paper and
aluminum foil and place in freezing unit overnight.
By Mrs. Faye Stevens
Here is an easy pie to make and always seems to please those to
whom I have served it.
STRAWBERRY ICE BOX PIE
1 package of fx-ozen 1 can of Eagle Brand milk
strawberries (large pack) Vt cup of lerfion juice
Heat milk and lemon juice together until thick. Add defx-osted
strawberries and stir until berries are evenly distributed in mixture.
Pour into nine-inch baked pie shell and stox-e in refrigerator xmtil x-eady
to serve. Just befox-e serving top with whipping ci’eam that has been
coloxcd light pink with strawberry juice.
WHO, ME?—This personable young- lady is somewhat startled because she has just dis
covered that she is going to be at Texas A&M April 2. She will be here because she is the
vocalist with the Buddy Brock orchestra, and the orchestra is going to play for the
Sophomore ball in The Grove that night. Her name is Betty Cole, her age is 18, her home
is Houston, and her marital status is unknown.
