OPINION OF STUDENTS
IS GIVEN VOICE
(Continued from Page 1)
and adopted, it will be necessary for
all student business organizations to
have their books audited at the end
of each scholastic year. This is in ref
erence to the Longhorn, Battalion,
class treasuries, and other kindred fi
nancial interests. It also applies to
public subscriptions, for the com
mandant’s office will give a stamp
of approval on worthy subscription
lists. For contributions, financial
statements must be published in the
Battalion.
But to get to a subject that applies
more closely to our every day life,
that is the mess hall. A round table
discussion brought out the fact that
the trouble with the meals could be
traced to lack of variety in the menu.
Every attempt will be made by the
committee to remedy this, the first
step taken being a few suggestions
that Mr. Duncan will do his best to
carry out. It might be of interest
to the student^ body to note that the
question of whether or not cafeterias
would prove successful or not was con
sidered for some time. Examples
were cited of other colleges where
this system had solved the problem
of feeding large numbers of students.
That is a question for the future but
our present problem must be solved
now.
The actual business for the day was
finished but several topics of interest
were discussed but no other decisions
were made. On one subject in par
ticular the committee had a great
difference of opinion, and that ques
tion is of vital interest to the student
body. Should athletes obey military
regulations the same as any other
student? Some said no, others yes,
but the thought remains that present
college regulations do not exempt
them. Those interested should see
their class representative and give
them their opinions on the subject.
Only through cooperation can those
regulations that are unjust be
changed.
At the close of the meeting. Dr.
Bizzell gave the committee some
thing for them to think about before
the next meeting. What will come
of it, time alone will tell, but several
exposures will more than likely be
made that will be a big surprise to
the corps.
DANCE IN HONOR OF HOME
COMING “T” MEN ONE OF
THE BEST OF THE YEAR
Immediately following the Aggies’
brilliant victory over Texas Universi
ty, the Aggie band took its place
upon the floor of the newly dedicated
Memorial Gymnasium and the first of
the dances began. What had been the
scene of a terrific struggle but a few
minutes before was now the settmg
for a battle royal whose intensity far
surpassed that of the early evening.
Couple jostled couple in the struggle,
with the spirit of good feeling and
fellowship prevailing. Those in charge
soon obliterated the menace of the
rough floor with floor wax and what
appeared to those onlookers in the
tiers of seats to be a seething mass
of humanity now resolved itself into
groups whose rythmetic grace might
be a subject worthy of the brush of
our classmate, LeMay.
It was soon possible to distinguish
individuals and then to our surprise,
we noted many welcome strangers to
our dance floor. And then there were
the old timers, Dodson, Guthrie, Ar-
nim, Boyce, and yes, even Red Moore,
all of them doing their best to sus
tain their enviable reputations as our
leading “local shieks.” Then the few
dates came in for their share of ob
servation and of course admiration.
Twelve o’clock came only too soon
for the revelers but gripes and groans
had no effect on the “relentless” au
thorities. Rules are rules and the
cadets are taught to obey them so
every one wended his weary way
homeward.
