College To Raise
Pigeons For Army
Poultry Department Gets Choice
Consignment of Birds
For Breeding
Purposes
As ihe nucleus.of a flock ihab will
used in breeding birds for the
war department five pairs of homing
pigeons have a been received by the
poultry department of the College
The birds are two years old and trace
their origin to Helgium,where some of
their ancestors flew in 1000 mile
races, but they have shown their
good breeding in their own flights,
which have run all the way from 15
to 500 miles One of the members of
the flock flew nearly a mile a minute
in a 200 mile race and all of them
have shown good speed.
As soon as new broods are hatched
out here the young birds will be
trained to fip ing

Erect 80 Tents for Soldiers ^
For the temporary accommodation
of a number of soldiers, the College
authorities have procured from the
war department and erected on the
Campus in front of the Y M C. A.,
eighty tents capable of housing six
men each While the tents can be
made comfortable in cold weather the;
chances are they will not be used[
after additional barracks have been'
constructed

First Period 8.00 to 8:20
Second Period 8:25 to 8:45.
Third Period 8:50 to 9:10.
Opening exercises, Guion Hall, 10:00.
The afternoon classes will assemble
to the regular schedule.
At 10 o’clock this morning in Guion
Hall the formal opening exercises of
the forty-third annual session of the
College will be held, and all students
and instructors are^ expected to at
tend. The program will be informal,
with a brief address by President
Bizzell, the introduction of the new
members of the faculty and special
music.
Recitations will begin in advance of
the formal opening, however, and the
first classes will meet from 8 to 8:20,
the second period will be from 8:25 to
8:45 and the third period from 8:50 to
; 9:10 The formal opening will occupy
sjbhe period from 10 o’clock until noon
and the afternoon classes will assem
ble according to the regular schedule.
(All students on the Campus are ex-
Ipected to report to all their classes
promptly today.
Registration continued heavily all
day yesterday, with still other stu
dents coming in. The enrollment is
mounting steadily.
