Most leases work the same way,
but there are some details that dif
fer from property to property and
it cannot be stressed enough how
important it is to know these details.
What are the dates that the lease
will start and end? The last thing
someone wants is to be homeless
for a week when they did not pay
attention to their move-out date be
ing before the move-in date for their
future home.
Other important questions: Is this
property pet friendly? Are there any
utilities covered under rent? How is
the maintenance service?
“Getting out of my lease was so
difficult/’ Hailey Zimont, finance
sophomore, said. “My roommates
and I signed before we told our par
ents the price of rent and they were
not happy.” After searching three
months for someone to sublease

her room, she was finally success
ful. However, because the lease had
been signed, she was responsible for
paying rent for those three months
when she was not even living there.
“It was the biggest headache,” Zi
mont said.
