SPORTS The Battalion I 2.24.15 3 BASEBALL Tim Lai — THE BATTALION Junior outfielder JB Moss takes an at-bat against Penn State last weekend. Inclement weather pushes forward Monday game time Undefeated A&M leans on heavy hitting lineup for upcoming games By Andre Perrard Texas A&M will put its undefeated re cord on the line this week against Hous ton Baptist Tuesday and Incarnate Word Wednesday. Because of expected inclement weather, the Houston Baptist matchup has been moved to 4:35 p.m., and the lineup for A&M has yet to be announced. The Huskies (5-2) are led by senior out fielder Zach Nehrir. Coming into the game, Nehrir has a .391 average, eight RBIs and two triples. So far, four Aggie starters are hitting above a .400 average, the highest being Mitchell Nau, who is hitting .524. Every Aggie in the starting lineup has an RBI, and Ronnie Gideon leads that category for A&M with 11 on the season. As a team, A&M boasts 12 total home runs. Six of nine Aggie starters have a home run, and Logan Taylor leads the team with three. Last year, Texas A&M did not hit home run No. 12 until the 34th game of the season. No starting pitcher has been announced for Tuesday’s game. For last Tuesday’s game, A&M head coach Rob Childress opted to send out freshman Turner Larkins. Larkins, a freshman out of Arlington, T ex- as, saw his first start against Stephen F. Austin last Tuesday night. In that game, Larkins went 5 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts en route to a shutout. Aggies will face Incarnate Word at 6:35 p.m Wednesday. The Cardinals (4-4) are led by junior Matt Morris, who comes in with a .429 average, six RBIs and two home runs in the season. A&M relies on a heavy hitting lineup, and so far this season the first two innings of ball games have been the deciding factor for the Aggies. A&M is outscoring its opponents 30-1 in the first two frames of play. FROM THE COACHES Women's basketball head coach Gary Blair hosts his weekly radio show at Wings 'N More Monday night. Blair boasts team’s success at his weekly radio show By Cole Stenholm All-around team ball is lifting the Texas A&M women’s basketball team as of late, head coach Gary Blair said Monday. In the weekly visit to Wings ’N More for his radio show, Blair said he was impressed with his team following its 66-46 victory over the University of Florida Sunday. “When the kids share the ball, everybody gets to play, everybody’s happy and it makes it a lot easier on the old coach,” Blair said. Sunday’s victory marked the fourth straight for the Aggies, who started the month ranked seventh in Southeastern Conference stand ings after a 4-3 stretch in conference play in January. The No. 12 Aggies February success surged them up the latest conference standings into a tie for third place with No. 11 Mississippi State, and 3.5 games back from first-place No. 2 South Carolina University and No. 6 Uni versity of Tennessee. A&M will play Missouri at 7 p.m. Thurs day in Senior Night at Reed Arena. MORE AT THE BATT.COM ARKANSAS CONTINUED shot 18-for-33 from 3-point land while gar nering three 20-point games. House has had support. His teammates down low, Kourtney Roberson and Jalen Jones, provided much-needed help, scoring 44 and 38 points respectively in the last three games. When asked about the Aggies’ strategy. Coach Kennedy explained the direction in which the team tries to go. “We know where we are trying to go with the ball,” Kennedy said. “We know that we want to get Danuel House and Jalen Jones touches and we kind of play off of those guys.” Tuesday will provide the opportunity for Billy Kennedy’s Aggies to capture the pro gram’s 14th 20-win season and the first since 2011. A win for the Aggies could mean security for second place, and the same goes for the Razorbacks. When a conference is as tightly knit as the SEC, games like these must be taken seriously, Kennedy said. “It obviously would be a tremendous win,” Kennedy said. “Anytime you win in Arkansas it is a special thing, especially this time of the year. We both have veteran guys that have been in our system and that we have recruited. We are both competing to finish in second place, which is quite an honor when you talk about the number one team in the country, [Kentucky]. Kentucky is the best team in the country.” 'fit y'' -y Place an Ad Phone 979.845.0569 Suite L400, Memorial Student Center Texas A&M University When to Call 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday Insertion deadline: 1 p.m. prior business day VISA Private Party Want Ads $10 for 20 words running 5 days, if your merchandise is priced $1,000 or less (price must appear in ad).
