Keaveny contacted Earthpak
Founder and President Scott
Figueiredo this summer after
learning of the company from a
Battalion article, and Figueiredo
offered to help.
Figueiredo said this was
a special situation because
A&M’s Athletic Department
had been working for several
years on starting a Kyle Field
recycling program.
“This is a chance for us to
show that we really stand by
what we do,” Figueiredo said.
“Our commitment is that we
actually will take the bottles
and document them all the way
through the process.”
This process involves taking
plastic bottles, like Dasani, and
making backpacks from them,
which is what Earthpak docs,
Figueiredo said.
“Earthpak will help us out
by providing the bins we need
ed and the best part of it is the
bottles do not have to be cleaned
and dried,” Keaveny said.
Figueiredo said each bin holds
70 to 90 bottles.
The A&M groups involved
will set up the bins Saturday,
sort them Monday and load
them into an Earthpak trailer,
Keaveny said.
Keaveny said a group will
monitor the bins for the First few
games to tell people about them
and call attention to them.

more people here than I would
have in a modular-style dorm
because of its shared nature.
Usually, people just stay in
their private rooms and don’t
come out;, but here, you have
to (come out) and you get to
know people.”
