Aggie soccer team ready to fight back after loss By Jon Gilbert THE BATTALION The No. 13 Texas A&M women’s soccer team suffered its first setback of the season last Sunday, a 4-1 loss to No. 12 Clemson. This weekend, the Aggies will attempt to forget about that game and jump back on the win ning track as they travel to Ivy League country to face Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania this weekend. The Tigers took advantage of a flat ef fort by A&M and took the game despite being outshot 25-10. A&M head coach G. Guerrieri said his team has not hit the panic button yet. “We will be alright,” Guerrieri said. “It’s just one game. The season isn’t over for us by any means. I didn't think we got mauled. We just came out fiat.” The Aggies head north to face two teams that are both ranked regionally. Princeton, ranked No. 5 in the Mid-At lantic region, has appeared in the NCAA Tournament each of the past five years and has 10 returning seniors. They are coming off a trip to Europe similar to A&M’s summer trip, and they should be ready to play. Pennsylvania, ranked No. 7 in the Mid- Atlantic region, said it is ready to make a run at the Ivy League Title. “We have a tremendous respect for Texas A&M," said Penn head coach Darren Ambrose. “They are a very athletic team and will be a tough op ponent for us. They had a little bit of a setback last week, but that will make them come out and try to rees tablish themselves. Our preparation will change after we play The College of Charleston, and we will get ready for A&M.” The loss to Clemson should help out the Aggies in the long run. The team learned that anything can happen if it doesn't bring its “A" game. "I’m glad we got that loss out of the way,” said junior goalkeeper Katy Jo Spisak. “You can tell we are motivated because the practices have been more intense.” Guerrieri agrees that the loss has moti vated his team and made it or his players hungrier for a win. Guerrieri said the up coming games at Princeton and Penn are not must-win games, hut games that the team needs to win. “Every game we go into we have to win. Yet, if we fight, give it all we have and just fall short, that’s OK,” Guerrieri said. That's OK because we gave it our best shot. A loss this weekend isn't going to drop us from the NCAAs.” The Aggies will look to get back on track offensively this weekend. Senior Christina Echavarry, the Big 12 Player of the Week, has been a huge bright spot, scoring all three of the team’s goals this season. Yet, she has not been given much help, and A&M will look for more of a balanced attack. The A&M-Princeton game will kick off at 6:30 p.m., and the Aggies' game at Pennsylvania on Sunday will get started at 10:30 a.m. THE CANYON AT POST OAK MALL Invites Y’all out Thursday, September 2 nd for the 1 st Annual TOGA!
